I couldn't believe they had set up two Diebold machines in the little Indiana, one room country church . My wife and I were the only voters in there. I said aloud that I didn't trust these machines. The man in charge tried to assure me they were safe. I asked him if he watched HBO Hacking Democracy, and he said he had. When I asked for a receipt he gave me "My Vote Counted Sticker"

2. Last time I voted in the UK
at local elections I thanked the lady for our wonderful system of paper ballot or postal ballots only. I mentioned "your" machines, she didn't even know what I was talking about and laughed at the thought of it.

There have been a few minor instances of postal ballots going astray in bulk in certain geographically sensitive areas but election tampering here carrys a fine of up £5000 and that's aside from conspiracy charges the penalties of which would be limitless.

If of interest out general rules are here : http://www.dca.gov.uk/elections/ge2001/procedures/02.htm
