Voting machine problems?

Our precinct uses Diebold. >>>groan<<<

Last election, we had half a dozen machines. This time, only three. And one was non-functioning. This caused a bit of a bottleneck, but nothing serious at 6:40 am. I was in and out in 25 minutes. The summary screen accurately represented my selections. We take it on faith from there...

Voting like Free speech should be Guaranteed ,in availability ,accuracy ,and Accountability.

2. Call your board of elections........

and report the problems. As you say, at 6:40 AM it isn't a big problem but it will GROW into a big problem later. CALL! Tell them to bring more machines, pronto!

3. NY, the last state to NOT use electronic voting

I am a custodian here in NY. In Rosendale, here in Ulster County. We use the old mechanical machines. When you cast a vote on these machines, you *FEEL* like you have voted. You enter the booth, pull the lever, gears grind, a bell rings, and the curtains close. You physically pull down voting levers that *CLICK* when you pull them. Then you pull the main lever, more gears grind, another bell rings, and the curtains open.
Much more than I can say for an electronic vote.

We have had a couple of mechanical problems, and documentation problems this morning in our five districts, but nothing that we couldn't repair before people started voting.

I am on call in case there are any problems, but if the past is any indication, there should be no problems here.

I'm SOOOOOO glad New York wasn't bullied by HAVA into installing those piece of crap Diebold machines. Our old lever machines have worked well for decades. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Even the nice blue haired ladies at my polling place agreed as well. They don't want the touch screen machines either. "Too much chance for vote theft", they said. I was quite surprised to hear that they knew about the problems with touch screen machines. I makes me feel good about the time when we WILL have to use those stinking things.

4. Bigger Than Normal Line - SLOW Moving Already. They Are Checking ALL ID's

I asked the pollworker about it and he said he was NOT happy about it.

5. A problem worse than Diebold:

The friendly election workers where I voted were obviously bewildered by the complexity of the process - which is scary considering it was optical scanning.

After showing my ID the venerable gentlemen marked off the wrong person's name on his sheet. While waiting for him to find my real name someone made a mistake on their ballot and wanted a new one. You would have thought the optical scanner had caught fire for as much confusion as that caused.

Maybe the vote count problems boil down to R's being easier to see than D's through the bifocals.

6. I ran into confusion too right off the bat as well as non-functioning machines.

They were hesitant to accept my bank statement as an ID. I firmly informed them that it was authorized and they feebly requested a driver's license. I was resolute however and they quickly folded. Honestly, I think they just wanted the DL because they didn't know where to mark on their sheet for the bank statement.

7. As I was standing in line to vote this AM, one of the workers

Told me that they had 3 machines in that precinct alone that did not work.

8. Poll workers couldn't figure out machine!

Even though they had classes they couldn't get it running properly for 15 minutes. This did not do much for my confidence. They got one machine up after conferencing and getting the aid of the Republican candidate for mayor in the last election. Luckily the Democratic Committee person showed up to keep an eye on things. He had just been at another polling place and helped them get that machine running. He also helped get the second machine running. We only have two machines for our district. This is a small largely Democratic town in Pa. I got to vote against Santorum! I was number four to vote. I am going to go back later when my wife votes and see if things improve.

Only a few people in line here, (took forever waiting) and one Diebold machine wasn't working, either. Two were left.....
