If Senator Reid and the democratic leadership were really serious about putting up a unified front they would play hardball with the defectors - the repubes do this all the time. They should lose committee memberships, privileges, and campaign money. Until DINO's know that there are consequences they will continue to try to play what they perceive as the middle and let the repubes and the media portray the Democrats as bunch of weaklings lacking unity.

I read elsewhere that Robert Byrd's largest contributor was Moveon.org. For him to vote to confirm Alito with impunity is outrageous. I do not care if he has been in the Senate since Moses. He needs to be punished with the others.
