Just voted for Webb. Good turn out at my polling station. There has |
|
been lines since early this morning. It was about a 30 minute wait.
I live in the Hampton Roads area, which is in the southeastern part.
There was a marriage amendment and a few other things.
To my surprise, they was someone running against Randy Forbes (R). I though he was running uncontested. The party for the person was IG. Never heard of it.
Everything running smoothly -- to my knowledge.

The poll workers said the turnout has been massive. I waited about 25 mins. to vote.

at 8:45 am, there was only one person ahead of me in line. In 2004, the line was around 40 people. This is Jim Webb's home precinct by the way.
Turnout prior to 8:45 apparently was pretty good -- I was the 221st voter. But in 2004, the total vote for that precinct was over 800, so turnout is going to have to pick up to come close to matching that.
on edit: I just checked and found that in 2002 (the last non-presidential election year), just under 600 votes were cast in my precinct, so may be 221 befor 9 am is actually a pretty good turnout.

I heard that the northern part is trending democratic.
If there is a big turnout in the southeast (?), is that good for Allen or Webb or is it hard to tell. I just really hope that Webb can win it.

5. The Northern part almost always trends Democratic. |

If Webb can win the Exburbs and the military areas around Newport & VA Beach, he should win no matter how many freepers show up to vote in the rural areas.

7. It could be good. This is definitely a Repub area, but people are tired of |
|
the way things are going and voting for the Dems. I know people who have vote Repub in the past said they were voting Dem this time.

8. You guys are suppose to be making up for Webb what we can't carry |
|
down here in the south. Though, people that have voted Repub in the past will be voting Dem this time.
We've got a good shot with Webb and around the country.

11. Oh, good. I've been waiting to hear from VA here. Talked to my |
|
father in Woodbridge. He said things went smoothly at his polling place and he checked things out carefully. Said turnout was "steady". Not a long wait, but more people than usual.
He also gave me a little extra information. He's in close contact with a lot of people down in the Southwestern part of the state - around Grayson and Wythe County. He says that virtually everyone there he speaks to (who generally are hard-core Republicans) is planning to vote for Webb. Says it's very good news from down there.
Also - I have a born-again sister, who called him this morning to gloat to him about voting a straight Repub ticket to cancel out his vote. His response? He told her that he was sorry she felt she could support a hate-filled, racist party and that she was no daughter of his and then he hung up on her! Not that I want familial strife, but obviously, my Democratic dad has had it with what is happening in his state.

12. Good news. Webb has family in the western part of the state. |

Too bad about your sister. I'm a Christian myself and cannot understand why someone would vote for someone like Allen after it's obvious that he has problems. I hope evangelicals can return to the Messiah in the Bible.
