You will NOT believe this - tear jerking...
Edited on Tue Nov-07-06 01:53 PM by PistolSteve
Don't ask me exactly how it started, I'm not sure (but I wish I could take credit for it)...

I live in a conservative district with a corrupt conservative incumbent representative (Tom Reynolds). The race is dead even. I was standing in line to vote a few minutes ago and I started to hear a little bit of humming. I thought nothing of it. Then it got louder and more people were joining in, but I couldn't hear what it was. It was a little irritating.

But then it happened...

Some shouts out, "Na, Na..."

And then about 75% of the people joined in, "...Na, Na, Na, Na. Hey, Hey, Hey, Goodbye"

It went on for about 30 seconds (which is actually pretty long).

I have never felt that good in a long time. People are starting to get it.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that each time, it got louder until some people were practially screaming!

Thanks for sharing!

I stood in line in front of a man and his son, listening to the man explain why it is so important to vote. I got a little teary b/c I'm pretty sure they were voting my way (heard the man referring to commercials for the Dem. candidate!)

34. Grandma
I just got a call from my grandmother. She is in a nursing home and they said they would not drive her to her polling station. I heard that the place was run by a conservative, and it looks like he won't let them vote. It's in a very rural place and I can't help her. When I called the manager just said that my grandmother was too excited, so they gave her a sedative.

They'll get a car to her, believe me.

I live in Kansas, you can't get any more rural than that.

Hurry, the polls may be closing pretty soon in the East.

The manager intimidated your grandmother!

But if she is stuck in there, her care might get worse if you complain However - If you can get her out of there, this manager is perhaps guilty of voter initidation - a federal crime punishable by fine and jail time (After all, if they can organize trips to casinos why not polling places

Reminds me of a candlelight anti-war vigil in Vermont a couple of years ago. It was dead quiet, just hundreds of people and their candles in silence. Suddenly, someone started softly humming "We shall overcome." Within seconds, the night air was filled with unity. Beautiful.

They wanted a house in the city, but the banks had red-lined the city and wouldn't issue a mortgage. The area was Republican for a long time but is wising up fast. A lot of people from the University have moved in and a lot of the older residents are a lot more concerned about Social Security and their grandchildren being sent to Iraq!

Democrats are thieves. There is also the county vs. city split that the Republicans encourage, sort of a mini-version of the Upstate/Downstate Divide. The Republicans tell rural and suburban New Yorkers that all their tax dollars are going to the city/The City which is code for welfare mothers.

99. Hey, I moved there in 63/64, too - I was 8
We couldn't really afford it but my parents wanted us to go to a good school, and it wasn't a fancy neighborhood, just a decent one. I actually think the area I grew up in - right on the line between Amherst and Williamsville, was heavy dem back then - maybe because of Kennedy. Or maybe we were friends mostly with other families with lots of kids.

At any rate, there's an interesting mix in Amherst/Williamsville. A lot of repukes to be sure, but very liberal dems, too. I live a town or two away now, and Reynolds isn't my rep, so I didn't get to vote against him. My brother, my son, and my parents did, so we did try!

52. for those who have lived extremely sheltered lives
Artist: Steam Lyrics
Song: Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye Lyrics
Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey-ey, goodbye

He'll never love you, the way that I love you
'Cause if he did, no no, he wouldn't make you cry
He might be thrillin' baby but a-my love (my love, my love)
So dog-gone willin'
So kiss him (I wanna see you kiss him. Wanna see you kiss him)
Go on and kiss him goodbye, now

Na na na na, hey hey-ey, goodbye
Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey-ey, goodbye

Listen to me now

He's never near you to comfort and cheer you
When all those sad tears are fallin' baby from your eyes
He might be thrillin' baby but a-my love (my love, my love)
So dog-gone willin'
So kiss him (I wanna see you kiss him. I wanna see you kiss him)
Go on and kiss him goodbye, na-na na-na-na na na

Na na na na, hey hey-ey, goodbye

Hey hey-ey, goodbye
Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey-ey, goodbye
Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey-ey, goodbye

after voting - not that it applies to this God forsaken place I live in - but I most certainly think it applies to the House of Representatives

How I long to live in such a place; I mean one in which the voters have awoken.
They're still in the dark here in southeastern Virpublican.

98. I got to help with the Davis Campaign.
We went canvassing for him a few weeks back. Everyone we talked to in the district was fairly responsive.
They want change.

Luckily it's more difficult to mess with elections out here in WNY.

And yes, that nearly 'jerked' a few out of me.

103. coming out of the polling place last night
as we drove to vote last night I told my partner about your story

she hates the song - long story as to why, won't go into that except to say it has NOTHING TO DO WITH THE STORY

so we go in and vote. Chit-chat with a few neighbors standing in line. As we head to the car, I hear my partner humming softly "...Na, Na, Na, Na. Hey, Hey, Hey, Goodbye" and waving to Santorum and Sherwood workers trying to hand literature out to people arriving...
