Heartwarming! "Christians must vote today OR ELSE!"
Contact Dane Rose, National Clergy Council, 202-546-8329, ext 106.

WASHINGTON, Nov.7 /Christian Newswire/-- Rev. Rob Schenck, president of the National Clergy Council, representing church leaders from all Christian traditions including Catholic, Evangelical, Orthodox and conservative Protestant, released this statement today as polls opened across the country:

"This is a critically important day for Christians in America. If Christians don't show up to vote today, babies will continue to die in abortions, fewer children will grow up in married homes, many more will grow up with two daddies or two mommies, God will ultimately be purged from the public square. In short, America will soon look like godless Europe. It's that simple.

"Jesus said Christians are salt and light, preserving against moral and spiritual decay and lighting the way for our civilization in the way of the One True God. But it comes down to whether we vote or not today. If we do vote, God will use us to benefit this country's culture and future. If we don't vote, we deserve what we get, and our children, grand children and great grandchildren will sadly pay the price.

"I am praying God's people will respond and do their duty to God, to their families and to our country. God help us."

16. Godless Europe is better in many ways
As Kurt Vonnegut said (I may not have the quote quite right) - 'free education, healthcare and retirement - who would want THAT?'. And may I add 'freedom from millions of fundamentalist lunatics, one of whom is my brainwashed BROTHER!!!' God help us, indeed!

Gee, that would be terrible, wouldn't it? All those luminous piazzas and intimate sidewalk cafes, misty moorlands and cozy pubs, romantic canal paths, windmills, tulips, primeval forests, soaring mountains, majestic beaches, rich culture, long history, art, music, fashion, literature, castles, public healthcare, fair elections, low crime rates.

The horror. The horror.

I like that analogy! I've long thought of the US as your 16-year-old son who's smart but makes so-so grades and is frequently high. High potential, but not living up to it, in other words.

"many more will grow up with two daddies or two mommies" - yes, your great grandchildren WILL pay the price if you thoughtless knuckledragging superstitious neaderthals manage to grant this administration another 2+ years of absolute power and a rubber stamping congress. That's why WE are just as motivated to vote, because despite the fact that we don't like YOU, we don't want your great grandchildren to suffer just because you people are ignorant bigots.

It isn't. People just have the good sense to keep religion out of government and separate from their working lives, and don't tend to push their personal religious agendas down other people's throats.

27. in germany, you have to
legally disconnect yourself from your religion. it's actually more integrated than here.

"The Basic Law (Constitution) provides for freedom of religion, and the Government generally respects this right in practice; however, discrimination against and unequal treatment of some minority religious groups remain an issue, in part because of the legal/constitutional structure of church-state relations. The structure for managing church-state relations, established in 1949, is gradually adapting to the country's increasingly diverse religious make-up.

Religious organizations are not required to register with the state. However, most religious organizations are registered and treated as nonprofit associations, which enjoy a degree of tax-exempt status. State-level authorities review registration submissions and routinely grant tax-exempt status. Their decisions are subject to judicial review. Organizations must provide evidence, through their own statutes, that they are a religion and thus contribute socially, spiritually, or materially to society. Local tax offices occasionally conduct reviews of tax-exempt status.

Religion and state are separate, although a special partnership exists between the State and those religious communities that have the status of a "corporation under public law." Any religious organization may request that it be granted "public law corporation" status, which among other things entitles it to name prison, hospital and military chaplains and to levy a tithe (averaging nine percent of income tax) on its members that the State collects. (Public law corporations pay a fee to the Government for this tax service; not all avail themselves of it.) The decision to grant public law corporation status is made at the state level based on certain requirements, including an assurance of permanence, the size of the organization, and an indication that the organization is not hostile to the constitutional order or fundamental rights. Religious groups that have been granted public law corporation status, in addition to the Evangelical and Catholic Churches, include the Jewish community, Mormons, Seventh-day Adventists, Mennonites, Baptists, Methodists, Christian Scientists, and the Salvation Army.

The Muslim communities remain an exception. To date, no state has granted any Muslim group public law corporation status, in large measure because of intra-Muslim disputes over which organization can be considered representative of the community as a whole. The federal Government is in principle in favor of granting public law corporation status to Muslim communities but has urged Muslims to agree upon a single organization with which the state and federal governments could deal. 18. Poor guy doesn't realize that God (as in the bible) is Love.
Not vengeance on this country if things don't go their way in the election.

Poor guy doesn't realize that many of those he thinks are "godless" are followers of Christ.

For them there is only one way - the literal way.

Sad.

"our children, grand children and great grandchildren will sadly pay the price"

Your progeny will always be free to practice their own religion in America, ESPECIALLY if the liberals are in charge.

No one wants to take your freedom of religion away, except maybe the Republicans who seem to have their own special brand of Christianity.

Liberals are all for you, Rev.
Be free! Live your life! Believe any damn thing you want!

You can even believe that you can turn this country into some sort of theocracy, if you like. Go ahead. But it ain't gonna happen. Why? Because we are ALL free.

49. IMO. The phony religious leaders like Haggard are the real hope
for getting the US past this fantasy world that Bush has built. Bush being discredited is, in the long run, more important in regard to the US moving toward reality than the Democrats winning this election. I'm sure that Bush will continue to do stupid stuff and we Democrats will keep pounding on him. However, I do believe that we should avoid being too blood thirsty even though Bush deserves it. To me the overkill mode of the Republicans is a big part of how they got in trouble. It started with their impeachment of Clinton and Iraq is more of the same. We should not arm them with sympathy.
