No matter what happens we should all feel good
With all of the pressure, those of us on "the left" have already done what seemed unthinkable a couple of days ago. Moved the prospect of a filibuster from being dead and buried to becoming an actual possibility.

Whether it comes about or not, and whether it succeeds in blocking Alito or not, we have already proven that its possible for average grassroots folks to create a groundswell that shifts the ice jam of politics.

I like to think my little call to Kerry's office was one tiny part of the wave that pushed him to follow his mensch instincts and lead the filibuster fight. I'm hoping other calls, faxes and e-mails I and you and others have been making to other Democratic politicians helped to make them aware that we are out here. And made them think twice about taking what they had pteviously considerd the path of least resistance.

It aint over, and any ultimate celebration would be premature. I'm braced for less-then-good-news.

But no matter what happens, I do think we can already celebrate the fact that collectively we (and all the other websites, interest groups and individuals on the left side of the spectrum) already changed the original scenerio. We have made a difference, and we should keep that in mind and continue to build on that momentum.

4. You can only do what you can do....
I agree. No matter how this turns out, I will have the satisfaction of knowing that I did not sit around and do nothing. I have emailed, phoned, and faxed myself into a stupor. I've talked to anyone that will listen, and bathered at a few that weren't so willing.
You can only do what you can do, but to do nothing is just not acceptable.
