Byrd, Johnson and Nelson are assumed to be voting for cloture.. ALthough it would not suprise me if one of them votes Present.

But assume all three are voting for cloture.

CHafee is with us on this vote. SO that is a net gain of two for Cloture.

THere are 55 GOP senators Plus the net two will equal 57 they still need three more. WHo are those three? and that assumes all GOP senators (less Chafee) are present and voting for cloture (not a given)

Mikulski? Who else?

1. Chafee has made it very clear
that he'll vote for cloture. And let's assume that the three dems voting for Alito will also vote for cloture. To do otherwise flies in the face of rational thinking. Landrieu is against a filibuster and will vote for cloture. I believe Salazar has also gone on record as saying he'll vote for cloture. That's 6 right there, and there are others who have signaled, if not quite so definitely that they will vote for cloture. I'll say it again, it's simple math: The pukes have the votes to cut off debate.

3. Landrieu
Has Landrieu changed her mind? She was one of the first "Dems" who announced for cloture.

6. Chafee
VEry clearly stated in today's Providence Journal (the print edition, I haven't been to the website projo.com) that he will vote for cloture. I've written and called him. It won't do any good.

Chafee can say he's an environmentalist. He can say he's prochoice. He can say he's a fiscal conservative. The proof is in the voting. Words are easy. He's spineless and blows with the wind.

The proof will be at the ballot box in November. He's outta there, if what I hear from friends and family holds true. Can't be soon enough. And when he gets out of the incestous cesspool that is DC, maybe he'll look back with shame. Not that that would actually HELP or anything.

7. Someone just told me Biden was against this filibuster...
Does anyone know if this is true? He continues to astound me with his pomposity.

8. Just tell him to close down his 2008 presidential exploratory committee
now, if he comes out against filibuster. He can have a "family emergency" next Monday and not report to DC until after cloture vote, if he doesn't want to actually vote no on cloture.
