Should we be concerned about the Mental Health of some in the Senate?
Edited on Sat Jan-28-06 03:32 PM by pat_k
I am becoming very concerned about some of our United States Senators.

Opposing Samuel Alito and at the same time opposing the Filibuster isn't rational. If you oppose him, and intend to vote Nay if the nomination gets to the floor, then you must vote Nay on the only "up or down" vote that matters -- the cloture vote.

I don't see what could lead someone to such an irrational position.

Could it be an early sign of some mental illness? Perhaps we need to ask their staff to take a close look at the boss's behavior?

1. I think the Oklahoma senators should be committed first...
They have to be the worst by far.

12. That's what happens when you leave politics to the "professionals."
It's time for the amateurs (you know, "We the People") to get back in the game!

Al From did his best to stop us by crushing Dean ("We cannot allow our party to be hijacked!" --Al From, July 2003).

They had to throw everything they had at Dean to stop him, but they couldn't stop us.

We're Takin' Over!

2. Or - you abstain from voting for cloture.
It's entirely possible some of them may not vote at all. Remember - they need 60 votes for cloture; the burden is on the them.

. . ."oppose Alito" (intend to vote Nay if the nomination gets to the floor) and at the same time vote Yea on the only "up or down" vote that matters -- cloture.

In any case, I'm worried about them.

6. Yeah, I'm scratching my head about it too.
I have to hope they're gonna pull something at the last minute - SOMETHING. :hi:

7. Perhaps a few "concerned" calls to Blanche Lincoln's offices . . .
are in order.

I believe it has been confirmed that she's one of the "vote No on confirmation" "oppose Filibuster" people.

We should let her staff know that we're really worried about her.

9. Offer her a few psych doc references perhaps?
That would be so mean - but you could copy the yellow pages of psychiatrists in her area and fax them to her. :D

. . .approach in mind.

For example,

Hi! My name is <whatever>. I am not a constituent, but I am concerned about the Senator. I understand that she has said she opposes the Filbuster, but at the same time, she tells us that she opposes Samuel Alito and intends to vote against his nomination if it gets to the floor.

It is just not possible to oppose Alito, and at the same time oppose the Filibuster. I can't imagine what could lead someone to take such a nonsensical position. I hope the media has it wrong. If that is the position she has taken, I'm worried that it could it be an early sign of mental illness. Perhaps you should talk to her about it?

10. One look at Alito should make us all concerned about HIS mental health
Maybe it's just me, but everytime I see this guy he looks like someone who's fucking cuckoo. Just the way he moves his head as if it's being pulled and tilted in different directions by someone pulling invisible strings connected to his skin is enough to make me think he's bonkers. Then he's got that little smile of his that you'd swear is a result of a thought process that's not connected to his body. This guy is a weirdo if ever there was one. I think he and Tom Delay have the same birth mother but different fathers.
