Why is Mary Landrieu for cloture? |
|
Edited on Sat Jan-28-06 03:39 PM by joemurphy
It is my understanding that people calling Mary Landieu's office have been told that she favors cloture because she doesn't want hopes for aid for the rebuilding of New Orleans to get lost in a big battle over Alito.
My question to her is what good has cooperating with the Bush Administration done her in the past? Landrieu was one of nine Senate Democrats to vote for Bush's disastrous 10-year, $1.35 trillion tax cut in 2001. Has she forgotten that the very next year, Republicans repaid her for her cooperation by targeting her and spending millions — unsuccessfully, but just barely — to oust her. In addition to President Bush, a parade of other Republicans came to Louisiana to stump for her opponent, Suzanne Terrell, including former President Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, incoming Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott of Mississippi and Sen.-elect Elizabeth Dole of North Carolina. So much for the advantages of being "a Centrist" and hoping that cooperating with the Republicans will get you somewhere.
Her present hopes for hurricane aid from the Bush administration are unrealistic. It's like hoping for roses in December. Does she really think Bush cares about New Orleans?
Remember that you are a Democrat first, Mary. The Republicans will do nothing for you. Stick with the Democrats. They want to help, and ultimately will.

...really, she is. Totally ineffective as a Senator...this would be a great opportunity for her to get up and use the filibuster to bash Bush for breaking his promises. Instead, she'll inhale some more pixie dust and hope Bush and the lying Repukes might finally keep their word one fucking time.
Really, if you can't figure out by now they're gonna screw you any time, just get out of the Senate and go work at McDonald's.

The truth can save them, but, so far, they'd rather go down with the liars.
ON EDIT: Great nose for a Senator.

She has taken an oath to support and defend the Constitution. One does not change the future for the better by living in fear or by violating her oath of office. Simply by voting "No" on cloture, one moves the Constitutional process forward.

6. One would assume she's been promised more Katrina relief |
|
Of course, why she'd believe the Republicans this time is beyond me. It's like Charlie Brown lining up to kick the football out of Lucy's hands again.

8. For someone who supposedly has a lot of political savvy, she's acting dumb |
|
I sent her an email Friday and pointed out that A) she said the Administration is moving too slowly to help the Katrina victims B) the Senate will not grind to a halt if the filibuster succeeds - the Patriot Act expires February 3 and the GOP will want to act on that ASAP. C) if she filibusters and we are successful, the president and Congressional GOP leaders will be so weakened she will be in a much better position to get relief for the Gulf States. D) It's the right thing to do anyway.
She's supposed to be from a family with a long political history in Louisiana. Shouldn't she know better how to play the system? Huey Long would be so disappointed.

9. Mary Landrieu was previously endorsed by Emily's List |
|
http://www.issues2000.org/Social/Mary_Landrieu_Abortion.htmLandrieu has a mixed voting record (rated 43% by NARAL) but clearly is pro-choice and pro-stem cell research. She's also turning her back on that in opposing Alito's filibuster.

Mary had big MO after her crying (rightfully so) on "this week" after Katrina, she should just assume that Bush is going to try to beat her next time so why give them squat. Plus technically she is being covered by vitter who has to get something because Bush needs him reelected. So what is she so pussyfoot for, SHE should be fillibustering at every moment. Instead she might as well be a rep.

Plain and simple.
Also, she seems to enjoy being abused and bullied about by Bush and the Republicans. Learned helplessness, it seems.

The play is called 'Fellatio', and the final scene, after being exploited and tossed aside, is one of suicide. Death and Sorrow, set to beautiful music of course.
