Say "Thank You" to John Kerry |
|
I'm proud to have been one of the early contributors to his presidential campaign - and delighted to have made another donation just now to the Friends of John Kerry. https://contribute.johnkerry.comIt doesn't have to be much - but any amount will demonstrate our commitment to those who are willing to lead our cause.

2. How about $1.30 - because 1/30 is day of filibuster |
|
...if I am correct?
(Or add a 0 or two to that amount.)
Any Senator receiving this amount would know what it's for.

4. $13.00? $1.30 would barely cover transaction fees, methinks. n/t |

5. I think the original suggestion was everyone donate a dollar, |
|
Edited on Sat Jan-28-06 08:32 PM by wildflower
(in another thread) so I tacked on the $.30.
The basic idea being a large number of people donating whatever possible, even if just one dollar.
I thought of $130.06, though that's a lot.
On edit: Plus I was thinking, if each person donated $1.30 to each Senator who supported the filibuster...

A quarter will be more than enough.

10. You're right, it would barely cover transaction fees |
|
the credit card companies, and merchant account fees will eat up that $1.30. Each transaction, whether $1 or $1,000 will cost 35 cents, right off the bat. Then there is the percentage fees, and gateway fees, Kerry will maybe get 25 cents out of the deal. Why do you think that most places say you have to have at least a $5 purchase in order to use a credit card.

That's a quarter he wouldn't have otherwise gotten - and he'll know that standing up for our cause opens a funding stream he wouldn't otherwise have.

Just enter it yourself in the box provided - the point here is to make a point, in language every politician understands. All Kerry has to do later is mention the number of contributions ... like Dean's campaign, it'll get noticed.
So don't hesitate to make a token contribution - if we believe in our cause, we should be willing to help those who stand up in our name.
I can't get out of my head what Kerry said to his swiftboat crew, "I need you, but you don't need me."
We need leaders now and I say, let's cultivate them. So I've given what I can afford - but if all you can spare is a dime, that should cover the processing cost and add to the count.

6. I might just have to say "thank you" the old-fashioned way: |
|
with words. I'm really, really broke. Cost of living is up. Did I get an increase in my disability. Yes, federally, but the state took it away. Thank you, Governor Gropenator. I know he cut programs, but I'm not sure if mine was affected.
Disability isn't something I can control. I'm trying really, really hard to gain back some health, but I've discovered the simplest of exercise programs exhausts me. I'm working on it, though.
Here is what I sent to Senator Kerry:
Dear Senator Kerry,
I'd just like to thank you for filibustering Alito. I would contribute in thanks, as well, but my disability insurance has frozen at the state level and I am barely, barely going to make it through the month.
Maybe next month I will send a contribution.
My fondest wish is that the Democratic Party would show spine all the time without being constantly reminded of how important it is. Some of us are too ill to be full-time political activists. Those who can't always speak for themselves need you the most.
Sincerely,
XXXXXX

18. Thank you Senator for listening to us in Boston |
|
last December when we asked you to start posting on 'the blogs.' Thank you for listening, thank you for putting someone on it and thank you for this filibuster attempt. God bless you sir.
Thank you to all the DUers who went to Boston to go to that fundraiser and wound up spending an informal hour with Sen. Kerry begging him to do what he eventually did: talk to the Democratic base. You guys rock! You braved a nor'easter, frozen conditions and airport delays and still kept coming. Thank you for 'speaking truth to power' and telling Sen. Kerry about this forum and about DKos. We are all just links in the chain, but all the links are important. I love you guys!
And thank you for DU. You have helped get the Democrats to 'stand and deliver.' I am in awe of this group and the amazing people who post on it.
Thanks!

21. What amazed me so much about Boston was that it was the man's |
|
BIRTHDAY and still he took the time to listen. And now he has responded and in a huge way! I'll never forget Boston, but more importantly, I'll always remember that Senator Kerry is a man of his word.
He's doing this because he heard us all. He heard us in Boston and he heard the multitude of voices on KOS. He's not an armchair general. He's a trenches general. He's out here with us now and we need him desperately.

20. He's doing the job he was hired by the people of MA to do... |
|
Edited on Sun Jan-29-06 10:53 AM by Totally Committed
it only seems heroic because most Senators aren't doing that right now, but this is HIS JOB.
The "reward" for doing that job is up to the individual, but it is just him doing his job.

He's just doing his job.
The heroic part of this is that he's having to do the job of all the senators who have dropped the ball on their jobs. He's battling them and pleading with them. He's working non-stop trying to motivate a bunch of sniveling cowards. In other words, this shouldn't be a battle for a few heroic senators to take on: EVERY senator who believes Judge Alito will harm our country should be doing their job and fighting him with everything they've got. Instead they are worried about negative press and about being re-elected. See the cowards run!
Senator Kerry is reaching out to more than his Massachusetts constituency. He has come here to the political netherworld in cyberspace; the blogosphere, and he's heard our voices. And he's standing with us. That is not something that is in his job description; but it is something that is in the man: courage, compassion, integrity, honor. I'd call that having our back. I'd call that heroic.
