It depends on how the 2006 elections turn out, whether there is another terrorist attack, how much credibility the conservative media loses, etc, etc.
For the first time ever, I found myself behind an automobile with about a dozen, bold, anti-Bush bumper stickers plastered all over the back of his car. 'W' is NOT the "Hero" or "Big Daddy" he was after 9/11.
The first year of his second term has been very rocky. He has not been able to ram through his total will. There seems to be more forces against him, even in his own party. He "is not a king."
Take a look at the last "MAD" Magazine of 2005. "Mad" used to be mostly a comic book decades ago, making fun of famous people. This issue is cover-to-cover blatant, however satirical, criticism of the Bush administration AND Faux News.
I will agree, certain things won't change. He has a base of people who, for one reason or another, think he is some sort of angel, sent from heaven. One member of my family (an in-law) has Faux News blaring all the time, has his car radio dial "crazy glued" to a conservative talk radio station and has Faux News as one of his main bookmarks at the top of his IE browser. During Bush's first (s)election, the aforementioned had Bush's face on his and all his kids' computers. He also thinks Elton John has no talent because he's a homosexual!?
Another two members of my family think it's perfectly OK for Bush to eavesdrop on anyone, including themselves, without warrant, BECAUSE THEY FEEL SAFE FROM THE TERRA-ISTS and THEY HAVE "NOTHING TO HIDE." They are willing to give their her privacy in the name of protection.
Those, we can forget about. There's little or no hope for them. I have tried to work on them for years, with no success. Maybe I just don't have the skill or maybe they are just stubborn.
Those are the bigoted and scared people who have their rigid, unchangeable viewpoints. There are also the greedy recipients of Bush's tax cuts and corporate favors who would continue to support him, the country be damned. Those are people who can never have enough money, possessions, status and will do whatever it takes to get it, even if it leads to their own eventual loss of liberty. They are too myopic to see that possibility. But they have sewn the seeds and they will reap the whirlwinds. Or, If you piss in the wind long enough, it will come back and hit you in the face.
But I see change, lots of it.
The very fact that a magazines and newspapers can still speak out against fowl play and incompetence in government means we still have some freedom of speech. Articles of Impeachment have been drafted.
http://www.impeachpac.org/?q=node/190So, without elaborating anymore, we can continue to be force, but at the same time, spend some time enjoying the good things in our lives.
As Yogi Berra would say at the bottom of the 9th, "It ain't over till it's over" and it isn't even the top of the 9th.
One caution I might add. A cornered rat will do anything to get out of the corner alive. More voter fraud comes to my mind.
Stay tuned.
