You'll still be called "obstructionist." |
|
To those Dem Senators still fence-sitting because they don't want to be labeled an obstructionist:
Something is going to happen, in fact it's happenning already, whether or not you support it. Do you really think Karl Rove will make the distinction in his talking points? Do you really think he'll have the noise machine saying "all but 3 democratic senators are obstructionists" the next day? Do you really think that any FOX news viewer is going to bother to look up whether you were one of the holdouts? No, it's your party, and unless you intend to change it you will be labelled and denegrated by the propagandists along with all the rest.
Do you think if cloture fails, but comes close, that that will stop the Republicans from calling you an obstructionist (again, regardless of how you voted?) Do you think they will stop even if Reid were to suddenly say no filibuster? No, they are already out there labelling you and will continue to do so.
So don't delude yourself. Get with the program.
(Just some material to add to your phone calls...)

1. If you speak truth, they can never call you an "obstructionist"!!! |
|
We must stand for something or we stand for nothing.
Just finished watching Mr. Smith goes to Washington...
Tell the Senators this:
Great principles do not get lost once they are brought to light.
It is time for the Democrats to lead this country out of the darkness and into the light!
Peace.

... "obstruct" the march of the government toward tyranny? Tom Paine is instructive in that regard.

3. too many for too long have been controlled by that |
|
Controlled by what "they" will "say". That gives the other side power. We, and our Dem Congresspeople need to stop listening to that. Period. Dems are going to find out, shortly, that it matters more to stand for something. To have convictions and stand up for them, no matter what people say.
Thanks to John Kerry and the other brave Senators!

4. But WHEN are they going to be labeled an obstructionist? |
|
That's my question -- only Byrd and Nelson Nebraska need worry about it, yeah? Cantwell, maybe -- but do people really think that in TWO YEARS, particularly during a heated presidential race that people are going to give that much of a shit about who filibustered Alito, and who didn't? Sounds to me like a poor excuse, in the first place.

This is an EXCELLENT point. Make sure that the fence-sitters and the cloture yes voters all hear and read this argument over and over and over...
