Fillibustering Democrats Must Embrace The Title Obstructionist & USE IT!
Edited on Sun Jan-29-06 10:02 AM by cryingshame
Democrats, should they pull off a fillibuster, need to embrace the title "Obstructionist" when it inevitably will be flung at them by the GOP and Mediawhores alike.

Take a page from Rove and USE what your opponent wishes to use against you, before your adversary has a chance to gain traction.

Rather then lossing valuable face time on tv denying "Obstructionism". Take the attempted smear and run with it. Immediately launch into how, YES, Democrats are obstructing corporate cronyism and unlimited Executive Power.

Obstructing an executive power grab and corporate dominance over our government is no vice. Abramoff is proof we need to reign in corporate influence. Bush's illegal spying on American citizens is proof we need to reign in the executive office.

Obstructing Unlimited Executive Power is fighting to preserve our Constitution. Both Adams and Jefferson would agree that checks and balances are essential in a democracy.

Obstructing a corporate crony who has NEVER shown any consideration towards human beings but whose judicial career has shown an endless capacity for compassion towards powerful corporate entities is no vice.

This is a matter of preserving American VALUES.

1. "When the ruling party chooses to run roughshod over Americans,
leaving Americans with fewer civil liberties, fewer protections against the govt and against corporations, in essence leaving Americans powerless - then it is our PATRIOTIC DUTY to Be Obstructionist on behalf of the American People and the American Way of Life.

3. That's bugged me too
They seem to blame the word itself for Dashle's loss, and run from it like the plague.

Embracing it *would* be rovian. Kevlar obstructs a bullets path. We LIKE Kevlar. A crossing gate obstructs us from the path a rushing train. A guard rail obstructs a plunge off a cliff.

But Rove deflects repub weakness by attacking his opponents strength. How would that work here?

you're obstructing that monkey's ability to use that razor--I like to think of it as preventing any more damage.

12. It's long past time for Dems ...
and all who oppose this regime to start turning these word games against Rove & Co. With an administration this corrupt, it's a good thing to obstruct it at every turn.

Resistance is an agenda. It's simply explained: hey, the bag of douche Republicans won't even allow Democratic ideas to be debated, so we're gonna filibuster the shit out of these assholes on most of their extreme shit and force compromise or implosion. And if you wanna have new ideas, then get rid of these crazy motherfuckers who want to wreck the country for this strange, endless utopian vision they have that they can't really explain to the rest of us.

Democrats in the Senate need to filibuster, constantly, because they can. Because, like David only havin' a little fuckin' rock in a leather sack against big-ass Goliath, they have God on their side in the form of poll numbers that say the direction of the country is wrong. You may say, "But, oh, dear, if Democrats simply stand in the way of things being done, they will be portrayed as obstructionists." And the Rude Pundit would get all Zen and shit and say, "Is a dam obstructionist to a river that would wash away a town?" Then he'd smile as you try to figure that out as he comes on to your boyfriend or girlfriend.

Resistance leaders are revered as heroes in other nations, especially when they take on a monolithic, seemingly undefeatable opponent. Their rewards are power with which they can then either imitate the foul leaders just ousted or forge a new bond with the average citizen.
