Sen. Obama criticizes filibuster tactic
HOPE YEN
Associated Press

WASHINGTON - To more effectively oppose Supreme Court nominees in the future, Democrats need to convince the public "their values are at stake" rather than use stalling tactics to try to thwart the president, said a senator who opposes Samuel Alito's confirmation.

Politics is like driving, to move backwards, you put it in "R", to go forward you put it in "D".

2. The problem is "the public does not always pay attention"
Congress is suppose to be informed and reach the people when they can, if not they should use good judgment when making decisions that effect the country and its citizens.

3. He should shut up and watch
how the "big" guys do it for a few years before opening his big mouth. Criticizing the Dems is all we need from another Dem. What's the matter with these people? Do you hear the pukes dong that? No.

4. Well they had ample chance to explain to Americans
that our values are at stake, and they didn't do a very good job of it. The filibuster is needed because the Democrats in the Senate couldn't get their shit together enough to make a good compelling case that the media would cover.

A filibuster will give Dems a SECOND CHANCE at explaining how Alito is unfit for the Supreme Court, with a little more attention from the media this time.

5. Absolutely. I don't see where
he gets off taking a stand on that and becoming a self-appointed spokesman on the issue.

6. I'm not sure what the hell he is talking about
the fact is that this vote will come down mostly on party lines and since these days it is next to impossible to find a repunk with any integrity we are forced to use stalling tactics or any procedural tools we have. There have been several times that Obama has deeply disappointed me.

I believe anyone who watched the hearings and have an ounce of intelligence could figure out that Alito is extreme. Did the Dems do the best job possible, probably not, but they did well enough to show why Alito is too extreme. Problem is most Americans don't pay attention or are just too damn stupid to get it.
