My letter to the DLC, link to send your "comments" too....
To whom it may concern,

I would like to start out by saying that prior to the 1st term election of George W. Bush I was one of those people who had never voted in my life. In fact, I leaned more towards Bush over Gore in that election because I felt he would be much like his father, a politician who wouldn't be too outside the norm.

After 4 years of him and the Rep. controlled House & Senate I became a registered Dem. and have been voting and financially supporting Dems ever since because I saw what kind of damage this man and his party was doing to our country.

I am writing you today regarding the nomination of Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court.

This is it for me, I am a midwesterner who lives in a red state who has done all I can to convince friends, family, & co-workers to see how Republicans are hurting the common person financially & socially.

Samuel Alito is the final straw. I can no longer stand the leadership in the Dem party telling us that they are waiting until the iron is hot to strike against the Republicans and speak out against them.

What have you done for us? When will we hear you speak out for us? When I go to the polls in Nov. of this year and 2008 why the hell should I vote for a Democrat?

Filibuster Alito or go "#*^ yourself!

1. My Email to the DLC
Sorry it's long but I am pissed. I am so sick of these wimpy DLC'ers that I can't take it any more. (Also posted on Ulysses's original post.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Exactly who do you think you are representing? I cannot believe that you would suggest that any groups of concerned citizens are attacking Mr. Alito personally. We, as Democrats, are attacking him for the radical right wing agenda that he supports. He will be one of the most disruptive judges ever to sit on the Bench because, he will rubber stamp anything this administration wants, including the dilution or removal of our civil liberties. There is not a Democrat that I know who doesn't realize that the confirmation of Alito is a high certainty but when are we going to stand up for what this Party represents. When are we going to be the opposition Party? When are we going to fight for what is right?
It is time for the Democratic "leadership" to fight for what we, the Democratic grassroots, want and that is to stand up to these tyrants and to stop worrying about your own re-election. The answer is not what the DLC purports...everyone has to go to the center; it's the only way to win. Bull#%*! It is to remain true to the humanity of the Party, the equality, the compassion for the poor and sick and helpless, striving for world peace, protecting our environment, and not a chase for oil or power. The Democratic Party is not losing voters because it is not centrist enough; it is losing voters because it is becoming too centrist. You are not going to change the minds of the conservative middle but you are losing the true Democrat who now chooses not to vote or who votes for a third party. Your thought that we will follow you anywhere because we would never vote for a Republican is half right. I won't vote for a Republican but I will vote for a third party candidate who represents my views.
Now before you toss me off as a radical lefty (which I proudly am), let me tell you. I have been a Party activist since I was 18 and I am now 54. I have been a Democratic club president, a precinct captain, and a campaign worker. I know a Republican when I see one and you, the DLC, represents nothing to me but Republican Lite.
Understand this; the grassroots movement to bring about this Filibuster is as much about seeing if you and the rest of the Party leaders have the guts to stand up for once to this corrupt administration as it is trying to protect this country from Alito’s ideology. If you do not fight, we will take this Party back and make it what it should be and once was before you wimps got in control.
I just wish you would fight the Republicans as hard as you fight your fellow Democrats. Then you might accomplish something.
2. What has "go along and get along" gotten us with respect to
Edited on Sun Jan-29-06 05:00 PM by joemurphy
the Bush administration. This administration is ignoring the law, torturing people, denying U.S. citizens the right to counsel, kidnapping innocent people abroad and sending them to foreign countries where they are being tortured. They have involved us in a ruinous war for false reasons. They have created more terrorists because of their conduct of the war. They have tolerated graft and corruption. They have been the most secretive administration in American history. Their mismanagement of Katrina has cost us an American city. There's Enron. Plamegate.
Abramoff. Libby. Delay. And now Alito.
Where is the L in the DLC? Where's the "Leadership"?
Why must the grass roots of the party do the fighting while the DLC, as usual, offers no effective leadership or resistance?
90% of Democrats oppose Alito. Why no filibuster?
