... wise, if you have the time.

Peace.

He seems to be an independent thinker (surprise!) so he might if enough people pressure him to. Maybe there can be a petition for him that you can deliver?

26. Yes, why not?
I'm from Nebraska, and I've already called once on this, and plan to call again tomorrow. His staff was very polite and he does seem concerned about the executive power issue, so that would be a good point to push.

7. Yes, please talk to Dayton. Last I heard, he was undecided.
He isn't running for office again and his term is up at the end of the year.

I am mystified as to why he is not speaking out.

)First, we have no connection to Howard Dean.)

But the role of DNC chair has traditionally been more one of cheerleader/spokesman than leader/director or, for that matter, referee.

11. Please share with any Senator the letter I sent to Mikulski.
Edited on Sun Jan-29-06 06:06 PM by hootinholler
:hi:

Senator Mikulski,

First, I thank you for your comments regarding Judge Alito's
nomination today. I could feel the conviction in the tenor of your
voice.

I personally believe that the Judge's views about the 'Unitary
Executive Theory" is a dangerous position to place the country in. It
could lead to the Congress being made irrelevant as long as there's a
threat to 'The Citizenry". In short, I recognize the proverbial fox in
him.

This in and of itself requires anyone sworn to uphold the Constitution,
as you and I both are, to use every means available to ensure Judge
Alito never sits within the august chambers of the Supreme Court as a
Justice. Thus, I write, for I am otherwise legally powerless over this
matter.

The Alito nomination is not the only peril imposed upon the country by
this administration, and the think tanks from whence they come. The
abuse of powers, corruption, extortion and apparent incompetence has
wrent asunder the noble reputation of These United States in the world
and is being used to loot the treasury. The burden of about $30,000
has been placed like a yoke upon my children, and your grandchildren
alike, to pay for the war on terror.

I therefore call on you to uphold your campaign pledge to be fiesty!
You have available the power to effectively stop all business in the
Senate by refusing Unanimous Consent, by asking for bills to be read,
and yes, the Fillibuster. I implore you to use all tactics at your
disposal to obstruct the business of the Senate until such time as the
following conditions are met:

1. Judge Alito's nomination is defeated.

2. There are bona fide investigations into the following:

a. The gagging of Sibel Edmunds by using 'State Secrets' to bury
politically sensitive acusations.

b. The use of inappropriately gathered information by any Federal
Agency for any purpose.

c. The actions of the 'White House Iraq Group' leading up to the
invasion of Iraq.

d. The secret 'Energy Policy' formulation led by the Vice President.

e. The motives behind the Katrina response.

f. Corruption influenced Election Fraud, e.g. Ohio and other states
in 2004

I implore you Senator, Make Them Stop.

Name, address etc. by PM.

-Hoot

15. BTW, I'm happy to lobby even "hopeless" repubs to oppose going nuclear!
Edited on Sun Jan-29-06 08:28 PM by pat_k
. . .They may be lost causes on the Filibuster, but some could be reluctant to arbitrarily change the "rule making rule" (in the United States Senate they need 3/4 to change rules -- the fascist state senate they plan to create would just require a simple majority... or if they don't have that, perhaps 2/5 . . or who knows?).

To pay a visit to any Senator, I just need at least one constituent to represent. (name and address required, message or letter optional)

21. Bayh! Can you get to Evan Bayh?
Edited on Sun Jan-29-06 10:24 PM by IndyOp
I've emailed, called Indianapolis, called DC, faxed DC, and drove up to Indianapolis to personally deliver a MoveOn.org petition representing 6,558 signatures from Indiana citizens...

Could you get to his office for me?

================================

Dear Senator Bayh,

Please do everything in your power to STOP the confirmation of Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court of the United States. FILIBUSTER!

My primary reason is an intense concern that Bush Administration is out of control – way out of control. They have lied over and over and over again to the American public. They have broken laws that prevent spying on Americans without FISA court approval. They demonstrate outrageous disrespect for laws by attaching signing statements to legislation such as the recent McCain legislation to prohibit torture. The statement attached by President Bush to this legislation indicates that he does not believe that he is required to follow this law – he will order the use torture whenever he deems it necessary.

Judge Samuel Alito is the architect of ‘the signing statement’ and the ‘Unitary Theory of the Executive’ which asserts that the president is all powerful when acting as Commander in Chief. As long as the President declares that we are in a time of war he is above the law? This is an abomination! Simply by nominating Judge Alito to the Supreme Court the Bush Administration is demonstrating their disregard of the balance of power between the branches of government. We must stop the confirmation of Judge Alito to the Supreme Court in order to stop the excesses of power that the Bush Administration frequently demonstrates.

If you can find no other reason to oppose Judge Alito, then oppose him because he is an unethical liar. When appointed to the Circuit Court, Mr. Alito pledged to recuse himself from any cases involving Vanguard and his sister’s firm. He did not do so. Unethical. Liar. Blatant disregard for the balance of power between branches established in the Constitution. The man is not fit to be a Supreme Court Justice.

Our country is in a constitutional crisis. History will judge us harshly if we continue to allow the President to over-reach his power; to break laws; to disregard civil rights. History will judge us harshly if we allow the confirmation of a Supreme Court Justice who will not act to stop this President. Do everything in your power to stop this appointment. Do everything in your power to prevent the Republicans from choosing the ‘nuclear option’ when the Democratic Senators find the courage to filibuster.

Sincerely,

We'll copy your post above, add your contact info, then hand deliver to Bayh's office (hopefully getting "face time" with someone as part of the visit).

You could also email info to thedeanpeople@comcast.net if you prefer.

37. Still accepting submissions -- with caveat
You can still submit requests for "lobbying" on your behalf.

But you should be aware that we are now "operational," and while all efforts will be made, there can be unforseen logistic obstacles.

Still well worth the price though.
