Those who knew Bob Corker did not vote him into the Senate
There is a really great article on my county's democratic party website showing how we here in Chattanooga did not vote for Bob Corker as our Senator but for Harold Ford jr. I just felt it very interesting how I saw so many Corker signs here in the city but we didn't vote him in.

Not Corker Country

The headline of the Chattanooga Times Free Press reads on Thursday, November 9, 2006 "A Red State Senate Win." The headline should read "Corker loses Chattanooga, wins Hamilton County by 7517 votes."

In the article Tom Ingram, the Corker campaign manager is quoted as saying "Hamilton would be the one that puzzled me most; I just would have expected a better performance there, given Bob's history and record." Mr. Ingram's comments come after an analysis of the counties carried by Bob Corker versus counties carried by Harold Ford Jr. The final vote total in Hamilton County was 57,405 votes for Bob Corker and 49,888 votes for Harold Ford Jr., a victory in Hamilton County Tennessee by 7517 votes. In the city of Chattanooga Tennessee Harold Ford Jr. received 58% of the vote to Bob Corker's 41%.

Neither Hamilton County, Chattanooga, nor of the State of Tennessee is Corker country. This election was extremely close; Mr. Corker admits that the election is close. In the Chattanooga Times Free Press article, Mr. Corker states "with an election this close, it doesn't matter where the vote comes from; it is still a vote that helps you win the race..."

I have an answer to Mr. Ingram's question as to why the election in Hamilton County was so close. First, we had an outstanding candidate running for the United States Senate, and for Governor. Most important, Democrats were motivated, and Democrats were on the streets to get as many votes as possible. Democrats reached out to all voters, Democrats, Republicans and Independents. Democrats are proud that Harold Ford Jr. won the city of Chattanooga, and that he came with 7517 of winning the County and that he tied the early vote. Democrats working the streets are proud that Governor Phil Bredesen won 69% of the vote in Hamilton County Tennessee.
