Another way to look at impeachment
Ok, trust me, if it was easy, I'd want him gone yesterday. And indicted and convicted and in a jail cell in the Hague. Unfortunately, it isn't that easy. Here's my thoughts distilled: 1) Have hearings on all the illegal and shady things he has done for the last 6 years, along with his cronies; 2) amass a huge database of hard evidence of what he's done; 3) for sure, prosecute his ass once he leaves office, because I doubt the American people would allow the prosecution of a sitting president. Impeachment yes, prosecution no; 4) Hopefully during the raking over the coals Chimp would just resign and spare us the trouble; 5) Once the public and "more fair media" starts asking about impeachment more vocally, then move to impeach. Americans were even loathe to impeach Richard Nixon, who damn sure deserved it !; and 6) finally, hand Chimp over to the international war crimes tribunals if at all possible.

Ok, I"ll just read your responses. I firmly believe I will change no one's mind, so I am not going to debate this.

1. Bush will do something else impeachable real soon. At that
point it is a new ball game. Be patient.

2. I doubt he'll have to do anything new at this point.
They've flagrantly committed impeachable offenses for the last six years. It won't take a long investigation to accumulate a whole bunch of damning evidence. Impeachment is coming.

3. My point is that if he does something "new" and he is IMHO too
stupid and arrogant not to, the Dems who said they would not impeach him can say "that was then, this is now."

6. I get it. I just think that, once the evidence for what he's already done is presented...
...no one will be able to stop impeachment.

4. I think if a good investigation ensues, and some of the media
actually report the facts, the feces will hit the fan big time. He might even resign rather than be totally humiliated in an impeachment trial.

5. I want him impeached ... but I agree you.
If the Democrats do it immediately, they will be attacked by the GOP and the media for "getting even" - we KNOW that! It sucks ... but that's the reality.

However, if they take the time to do the investigations and collect all the evidence they possibly can - while keeping Junior on a short leash - the American people will most likely demand that Bush either resign or be impeached. Depending on what the evidence shows, they may even demand that he be criminally prosecuted. We KNOW that the guy is guilty of crimes against our country and humanity in general - the rest of America should know that, too. Get the evidence out there and the rest will take care of itself. JMHO

7. Let the investigations go forth....truth to the People!!
Edited on Thu Nov-09-06 09:13 PM by capi888

As the investigations begin with evidence to the American People of treason, will demand that the present administration be impreached. WE MUST investigate FIRST!!! the people will cry out for impeachment...loudly.
We have so much on the table to undo, and our new speaker and Congress, wants to show the American People, we are doing the peoples business for a change, to give them a sense of leadership, and that they are creating a change. We have to regain trust before we even venture into a discussion of Impeachment.
One step at a time. We have control now, starting off with Impeachment is not what we need to do until trust in the new congress by the people is established. When they see wages going up, health care , etc and unified Dems, their trust will start coming back. The people have to be convinced by evidence of treason....and now they are just waiting to see what the Dems do...
I also feel in my heart...that the past 4 years, there is already established evidence, however, we still do not have vast trust of the people. they do not want the courts stopping policies that will benefit the people. Patience is needed....six months will make a big difference....
