'Keep Our Powder Dry' via Daily Kos
Folks this is some great stuff. If you are quavering in the slightest about the filibster, then this post at Daily Kos should readily set you straight. (If it doesn't, you might want to check your liberal/Democratic party vital signs)
I've cut and pasted the 1st of 4 points. It is funny, but poignant, and dead on right.

Keep Our Powder Dry
by jasonwhat
Sat Jan 28, 2006 at 08:46:06 PM PDT

For once, I'm in agreement with the pragmatists of the Democratic Party.  The fight to stop Alito is one that we cannot win.  It is better to keep our powder dry.   You might respond, "Keep it dry!  For what?"  Glad you asked.  I can think of fights for which we will be glad we kept our powder dry.

1. What if a Democrat wins the popular vote in a Presidential election and may have won the Electoral College, but only a hand recount can count all the votes and account for the machines built-in margin of error.  I don't know the legal system that well, but I suspect there would be a legal challenge that would go as high as the Supreme Court regarding the legality of the recount.  What if SCOTUS voted on partisan lines NOT to count the ballots.  As a result, the Republican wins.  I know it is hard to imagine, but it could happen.  I'm sure that if a subsequent recount did show the Democrat wonCongress would come up with some way to remove the false President, but either way, we should keep our powder dry for this scenario....

30. Here's clue No. 2
I've added the html links to help you along....

2. Imagine that a catastrophic terrorist attack happens on our shores.  The Republican President gives some nice speeches and promises to kick some terrorist ass. He tells us that if anyone could have imagined such an attack he would have done everything possible to protect us. I'm just spinning my wheels here, but what if it later became clear that there was warning of the attack and the President did absolutely nothing to stop it? He was busy doing something ultra-Republican, maybe trying to start a new nuclear missile program -- who knows. At any rate, he ignored the threat and lied about receiving warning. This is a Republican we are talking about; so, he'd probably try to pull some crazy stunt like falsifying an EPA report that states the air at the place struck by the terrorists made the location unsafe.  We need to keep our powder dry for this eventuality.

2. Blah, if they CONFISCATE the POWDER
WTF would they give a crap?

Occasionally you have to stand for SOMETHING. If we can't stand against one unfortunately POLITICAL appointment (for a judicial job), then we will only be standing together AGAINST THE WALL.

Forget saving for a rainy day. The tsunami is here, got your snorkel?????

4. That's it.
We've been saying for years -- some, for decades -- that we must keep our powder dry for when we really need it.

The point was that we've needed to use our powder since Selection 2000. We didn't fire, then, though.

Nor did we fire it for all the scams from Cheney's ENRON Energy Policy Tusken Raider Force to 9-11 to CIA Leakgate to Abramoffscam to wherever.

Well now, with the NAZI turd Alito about to go on board with his button as the fartheest-to-the-Reich justus, we should be thinking of finally using the darn powder.

BTW: I think we should have used it on 22 November 1963.

32. That's true on every level! Working from the impoverished mindset
that you've only got so much "power" that must be horded and yet never used simply leads to ever more manifestations of lack.

5. This is all hypothetical and even without Alito, they anointed Bush
Edited on Sun Jan-29-06 11:04 PM by wisteria
as president. It just gets worse with Alito and the public has a right to know and our Senators have an obligation to fight this nominee. Save it for what? Alito is here and now, he isn't some hypotheical situation that may or may not arise.
This also plays into the premise that we are to be the minority party for some time to come. I say the time is now to take a stand even if we lose we will have fought a good fight and it will be known that we stood up for what was right.

Your post reaks of DLC sentiment. Republicans cater to republican voters and it seems that mostly all our Democratic sentators do also. I want to know, who represents me?

Sometimes the direct approach is more effective, sometimes the scarcastic approach works, it all depends on the audience

Around like August last year, Daily Kos was saying they had some plan to attack the DLC. Did you take that into consideration before you threw out this accusation? Or did you just see this one article and that gave you all the information you needed?

Another example of the knee-jerkism within the anti-DLC movement.

This could prevent many abuses by the Judicial Branch and potential collaboration with Republican dominated branches of government far into the future!

The time is NOW!

If reading #1 didn't register with you then you've already forgotten Selection 2000 - and if you've forgotten Selection 2000, I can't imagine why having Alito on the court would bother you.

remark and he/she goes on to say that doing nothing and waiting for some future battle is pointless because in light of all the BS that has gone on over the last 5 years is why we should fight NOW against Alito.

33. To My Knowledge, the Republicans Have Threated to Disallow Filibusters
ONLY on votes for judicial nominees. None of the examples have any relevance.

Geez, it's bad enough to give in to threats. But at least don't give in to threats that haven't been made.
