This election went WAY better than I expected. |

I was predicting that we would probably get the House but would miss taking over the Senate by a few seats. Still, I was optimistic because I knew that more seats in the Senate would at least make it a little harder for Bush's right wing judicial nominees to be confirmed. But Tuesday night was great, surprising night! And finally, today on Thursday, Allen and Burns have conceded and Democrats have the Senate!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: Is it true that the party in power can decide what judicial nominees make it out of committee?
To make it sweeter, the election party I attended was hosted by the No on 85 people from Planned Parenthood. California's Prop 85 was a "parental notification" ballot measure backed by anti-abortion extremists that was nearly identical to one that lost in last year's special election. Its supporters blamed last year's loss on voter anger towards the special election because every single ballot measure went down that year. Well, as those of you in California know, 85 went down even harder this time with 54% saying NO! I had been worried that it would pass this time.
It felt great to be able to phone bank for the battleground Congressional elections this year through MoveOn's Call For Change. I remember making calls for Webb, Tester, Casey, and McCaskill and it felt great to see them all emerge victorious! I imagined how the voters I spoke to must be reacting to all this good news.
We did it! It's final today! I'm looking extremely forward to January! :bounce:

1. The Republican had 12 years and they failed. |

The only thing they do well is negative campaigning. They can not govern. I hope the people remember that.

I could tell that we would get the House after several House Republicans, some of whom I never imagined would get knocked off, started getting knocked off but the Senate races were a real nail-biter, at least the ones in Missouri, Montana, and, of course, Virginia. I would've been satisfied just taking back the House but winning the Senate just sweetened the pot even more. Also, the Democrats re-took the House here in Indiana, which (hopefully) promises to make "Not-OUR-Man-Mitch" a little more accountable as well. Since he was elected in 2004 with a Republican "rubber stamp" legislature, has been running Indiana almost like how Bush has been running the rest of the country, which is to say just how HE (and Cheney) wants it run. I guess now Bush and Mitch are going to actually HAVE to work with the Democrats instead of ignoring them if they hope to accomplish anything worthwhile.
