Quick question about Snowe and Chafee...
Are they voting against Alito and Yes on Cloture? I thinkI read somewhere that they were, but when I check the Democrats.com - Alito 48 page, They have both Snowe and Chafee under "Alito Waffle Watch" (voting no on Alito but undecided on Cloture) and Snowe listed again under "Gutless Caucus" (voting no on Alito but yes on Cloture). Does anyone know the story on Snowe and Chafee?

1. To my knowledge, neither has said anything definitive.
But holding out hope that they'll vote against cloture is probably whistling past the graveyard. It most likely won't happen.

4. but thousands of phone calls will help
Each senator (except Kennedy and Kerry) has only agreed to filibuster becuase of thousands of phone calls and faxes.
CAll and call and call.
Things can change.
This is the good fight.

2. Wasn't there an article here yesterday that had Chaffee saying
that he was voting for cloture? I could swear that I read that here yesterday.

3. If these two had shoved back when Bush pressured them publicly to
support his goddamned tax cuts, I would have more empathy for them now.

But they more or less let him bulldoze them, and they've more or less caved for just about everything since.

I hope they prove me wrong, but at the moment, I think Snowe and Chafee are clowns who need to be replaced by the progressive majorities in their respective blue states.

5. "Centrist Repubs" is a Media Myth.
Look at their votes.

7. I think any reports you read...
are born out of blind optomism and miscommunication than confirmation. All it takes is one uninformed blog or poster to say "Chafee opposes Alito!" to lead to 500 people believing that Chafee is going on a hunger-strike until Alito's name is withdrawn.

8. That's true...
I should just posture my letters to Snowe and Chafee like they're yes on both Cloture and Appointment.
