My letter to Lincoln Chafee
I want to go on record that Lincoln Chafee is about the only Republican I would ever consider voting for. I believe the man was a good senator caught up in a backlash against the Chimp's shitty policies. I truly believe the man was more of a Populist than anything, and was about the only Republican who stood up for Bush for anything. There was just a post here at DU saying that Chafee is thinking of not staying with the Republicans. From his website, I sent him a message:

To the Honorable Lincoln Chafee:

While, as a Democrat, I am happy Shelton Whitehouse won, I am saddened to see an honorable, trustworthy, principled man such as yourself the victim of the voter backlash against George Bush and his destructive policies. I have just read on Boston.com that you are unsure about staying with the GOP in the future.

Mr. Chafee, while I speak for basically myself, I believe alot, if not a majority of Democrats would be honored to see you switch your party affiliation. You are the type of principled man that the DNC would welcome.

Thank you for voting your conscience and good luck in your political life. Here in Arizona, we wish you the best, sir.

Sincerely,

<name with-held>

2. sadly for chaffee, he voted for most of the most heinous legislation and
went along with some really nasty partisan abuse.

he was part of the problem.

6. He voted against the Iraq War, and didn't vote for Bush in 2004

His political career would have been saved if he'd changed to Independent like Jeffords.

4. Great letter, Jiyah, and welcome to DU!
I too liked Chafee, but the party ruled this year, and he wasn't in it. I hope he does join the Dems and continue; we could use more like him.
