2. prosecute, yes . . . but impeachment is a waste of time and energy . . . |
|
and it has nothing to do with justice . . . all impeachment can do is remove someone from office . . . no jail, no fines, no punishment for crimes committed . . . justice is what the courts are for . . .
the impeachment process would take up pretty consume the government and the nation for the next two years -- the two short years that we have to prove that we can govern effectively . . . correcting the worst of BushCo's crap while addressing the real needs of real people is a far, far better way to spend our time . . .
simultaneously, we should investigate, collect evidence, and build the case against Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, et.al. . . which we can take to the appropriate court(s) after they leave office . . .
by the time impeachment hearings and trial in the Senate concluded, they'd all be finished with their terms of office . . . and the House will not impeach, and the Senate most certainly won't convict, to remove someone from office who's leaving next week anyhow . . .
justice for BushCo is essential, but it will come from the judicial system at the appropriate time . . .

3. I understand your practical approach. I prefer a more principled approach however. We either have a |
|
Constitution and respect it or we don't. Selective enforcement is not a principled approach and sets a very bad precedent. The people have spoken and a majority desire investigations and if neccessary impeachment. Regardless of minority or majority the Constitution should be our guiding light for that is a sacred document which defines our democracy. Ignore it at your and our peril.
Are we a country which should govern by the Rule of Law or not? That is a fundamental question in this debate.
