That's a serious question too. I know there are always going to be disagreements and debate here, but I've not really ever seen DU descend into true chaos due to animosity between posters just because they hold opposing viewpoints. I'm not looking forward to seeing it either.

Sparkle & Joey crossed the bridge a few years ago. I think they cooked up Tarzan & sent him to us as a present.

heartbroken. A month later, a friend bought me a darling 8-month-old kitten from a rescue society. One month after that, a feral stray kitten was found in the warehouse district in Topeka where a friend of mine works. She asked if I would take the kitten. I was hesitant, because I had just gotten the replacement for my cat who had died, and I still had another cat, but I agreed to "try" the kitten out. I had her dewormed, de-flea-ed, and de-earmited. She was so cute I kept her (as my friend undoubtedly knew I would). As it turns out, she would have been born right about the time my Gabby died last year, and she has several of the personality traits that so endeared my Gabby to me.

My sister who also lost a cat around the time I did ended up with a stray soon afterward, too. When her son and his fiancee left work one evening, they found the stray kitten sitting right outside the door.

Who knows--maybe our lost pets really do arrange for starys to come into our lives to comfort us.

This is something I've observed in staff meetings, as well. I call it a hive mentality. Something new gets introduced, and everybody babbles for about 15-30 seconds. We then sort of calm down, sort out the good points from the bad ones, someone says, "I thought so-and-so had a good point. What did you say?" And after a short time, a rough consensus begins to emerge.

That first burst of chatter, though, about drove one of the partners nuts on the occasions when he had to preside over the staff meetings. He'd try to moderate the discussion and have the 20 people all take turns, which was actually quite counterproductive, as the first ideas voiced often swayed or set the direction for the discussion that followed, and other good ideas were never brought up because of the reaction to the first idea.

A major event has occurred, something very new has been introduced. The hive is buzzing right now, and for people who prefer a more orderly discussion, this isn't the time to try to moderate it, even if the buzz could be moderated. Let it wash over you, try to separate out the good thoughts from the bad, and wait a bit. Be patient.

But those meeting drive me crazy too. I can't stand meeting with the nurses here at work because they all talk at once, and change the subject before wrapping up the last subject. Resulting in 90% inconclusive decisions for what are many times simple questions.

There is plenty of room for buzzing, and I don't have any say over what happens here obviously. I'm just observing and commenting on the lack of well thought out discussion (in certain cases). It's a forum, people can talk all they want. But just maybe talking a little softer and asking for open discussion would yield less frantic and confusing debate. Instead of making dire statements and defending your position at any cost. No offense intended to the screamers. OK a little, but in good jest.
