I am standing up for Howard Dean as DNC Chair
Any damn fool who understands cause and effect, as well as how effectively he raised funds and spent them wisely on our candidates, KNOWS he is the BEST choice to stay on as chair of the DNC. We WON, and WON BIG, largely due to his efforts and leadership. We at the grassroots worked HARD to win this Congress, and I'll be damned if some wedge-headed Cajun loudmouth is going to put OUR party into the hands of another Terry McAuliffe clone.

I used to like Carville, and I struggled mightily to forgive him for ever wetting his pecker with that wretched evil circus clown he married, but it is time for him to shuddafuccup.

I am standing up for Chairman Howard Dean and OUR Democratic Party!

Who's with me? :toast:

134. Fund-Raiser Idea...
I think local Democratic Parties should have a Howard Dean "Sound-Alike" Contest -- whoever can emulate the "Dean Scream" the best wins a prize, and anybody who votes has to donate $10 bucks to the DNC. I think it should become the "rebel yell" of the progressive movement.

I love Howard Dean!

172. My Election Officer pay is going to the DNC in $20.06 checks
I just received my pay for being the Election Officer in our precinct on Election Day.

It's $142.00 so it will cover seven checks in the amount of $20.06.

Just think, I got to do a civic duty and I benefit through supporting the 50-state strategy of the DNC.

Howard Dean rocks!

14. I understand!
My opposition to his presidential candidacy is um, legendary. :-) And I don't disavow it.

But I think this job suits him in a way the presidency would not have.

And, because I was eager to dump McAuliffe, I knew Dean HAD to be better, even by default.

He earned his keep with these past 2 years. No default setting necessary. :toast:

33. I am: Carville is a sham populist
Edited on Fri Nov-10-06 03:39 PM by Strawman
Carville is having a tantrum because he was marginalized. His big ugly bald head and the ego that inflated it can't stand being irrelevant more than he can't stand losing.

His people want to be completely in charge for Hillary in 2008. That's all this is. It's a hit job to soften up Dean and his people.

Despite all of his efforts to cultivate an image as a populist, when I look at Carville anymore I see a cynical man who appears to be physically eaten away by the corruption of elite DC power circles. You know how they say married couples start to look like each other? Sadly in James' case, I think it's true and you can see on his face that rotten insider cynicism has eaten away at his soul. He's a populist as long as he gets to decide what that means for everyone else. As long as he has the power. That's how twisted he's become.

47. Marginalized
He was owned and eating dirt after each losing cycle presided over by his circle. Only Dean saved our bacon from a weak or non-existent revival this year. And what has he done wrong? Nothing. He alienated no one, wrote off and abandoned no one and kept a visible but non divisive profile with strength so much that he was less a target for the GOP than the weaker, more muddle headed MacAuliffe- who was doing nothing to strengthen or change the party other than waiting for someone- preferably with big pockets- to ride in and rescue them just because Dems deserve it.

Without Dean there would be no hope for a reprise of the close election in my district. The other "leaders" would create a self-fulfilling defeat and abandon us. Next time we can win. Today we have hope, even in the belly of the gerrymander. Has ANYONE else or any vaunted contender messiah the ability to do this? Not one, unless Dean remains chair.

If some centrists' dream is to have a New York State incumbency gridlock quagmire on behalf of treacherous business interests they will justly be shocked with bigger losses and soon. Just because we are not bug-eyed loons that the GOP can call upon for real energy and support does not make the thinking and progressive left pariahs "too dangerous" for a hypocritically bi-partisan Frankenstein of mediocrity and cowardice, a fertile morass for the wholesale destruction of civilization.

My only wish is that we could purge most of the Democrats that run the Illinois delegation. I might not talking about Sens. Durbin or Obama, they're both good guys, but I'd love to see the likes of Mike Madigan, the State Party Chair, go. He's nothing but a thug and always has been.

He wouldn't even campaign for Alexi Giannoulis who won on Tuesday for State Treasurer. Madigan more or less endorsed his Puke opponent Christine Radogno. :puke: :puke:

54. I'm with Dean...always have been.
and I don't even agree with all of his politics. I do agree with his strategy, which IS populist by nature. He brought infrastructure back into the party, which encouraged average Americans from all over this country to get involved.

He was the only one talking infrastructure years ago, and was called "crazy" for it.

Now the DLC wants to co-opt that structure (and probably dismantle it) with Carville as their spear-head. They will not succeed for many reasons, but a metaphor for those reasons are the responses to this thread, all positive and spanning the entire political spectrum of DU. It is hard to argue with success and popularity.

Trust me, my fellow DUers, the DLC is making a major power play because they saw the exit polls and realized that they are poised to lose influence. The new conservative Democrats from newly-acquired seats are their opposites, populists. the people are taking the power back in the party, and that spells bad news for those that have brokered power through corporate money (and favors).

The DLC brought us free trade agreements while maintaining social liberal principles (largely)...new "conservative" Democrats ran against those policies. If the DLC don't secure power and control the debate, now, they may be swept away.

55. I'm for Dean too. Some say it was his insistence of seeing across the board
that even let DNC's energies be used on a wide variety of races they normally wouldn't have, many of which we one. And doing so also works for the DNC in races they didn't win but it allowed the voters in these districts to see viable Democratic candidates, and it may well pay off in future races.

(I don't know why Crville is so mad. I like him and think he's intelligent, but he may have bad blood with Dean and is letting person reactions override political reality.)

65. The chair is elected by DNC members
And how they get to be DNC members is by being big movers and shakers within the party.

The best we can do is flood them with calls and emails and hope they honor the wishes of the rank-and-file members like us.

support him through the party organization. Talk to your DNC delegates about your support of Howard Dean and how much he has done for us.

Elections for DNC Chair will be coming up in a couple of months during the national DNC Delegate Convention. Now is the time to have frank discussions with your fellow party members on the importance of keeping Howard Dean. And your congress critters are also DNC Delegates by default. Contact your senators and representatives and let them know how important it is to keep Howard Dean as chair.

Go People-Powered Howard!

Edited to say that by "dues paying" I don't mean contribute to the DNC but become a dues paying member of your state or local party organization. That's where the grassroots power starts and that's where Howard Dean gets his support.

I don't know what Carville's problem is. I used to like him, thought he made a lot of sense. Now I think maybe he's jealous because Dean was able to actually accomplish what he said he would do.

Sometimes the fanciest, splashiest efforts are not always the most successful, you know?

Haven't cared for Carville for a looong time. He has such an inflated ego , Appears to me to be off in another realm. As for the rest of that bunch, not a one even mentioned Dean's name. Emmauel jumped in to take all the credit for the win. Pelosi's thank you letter to all of us, mentions the great DCCC many times and also Emmanuel. If Dean is ejected and Carville is appointed, I am registering Independant. Have thought about it for some time. The Party is becoming something that I have trouble recognizing. The leadership there is not progressive.s

He has been tireless in seeing to it that we won this time. He has given far more support than he has received from some of the most important and influential Democratic members of government. 140. Howard Dean is one of the greatest things to ever happen to our party
I'm not exaggerating. He showed us the way to raise funds via the internet, he showed us how to stand up and feel proud to oppose fascism and warmongering, and then, in a final tour de force, he showed us the way to victory and restored our hope and honor. He has always been on the cutting edge and one step ahead of the competition. I will stand with this man against hell or high water.

There's a great Kos post up about why we won:

Memo to Every Democrat
by kos
Fri Nov 10, 2006 at 02:06:06 PM PST
Dear Everyone Who Thinks They Singled-Handedly Won the Last Election,

The DNC and Howard Dean couldn't have won this by themselves. They are not the source of all good in the world. Or all evil.

The DCCC and Rahm Emanuel couldn't have won this by themselves. They are not the source of all good in the world. Or all evil.

The DSCC and Chuck Schumer couldn't have won this by themselves. They are not the source of all good in the world. Or all evil.

The netroots and grassroots couldn't have won this by themselves. They are not the source of all good in the world. Or all evil.

The 527s and unions and allied organizations couldn't have won this by themselves. They are not the source of all good in the world. Or all evil.

The big dollar donors couldn't have won this by themselves. They are not the source of all good in the world. Or all evil.

They were all part of a glorious puzzle. And working together, even if not always harmoniously, led to great, great things.

Hugs and kisses.

kos

p.s. As for the know-nothing pundits in DC and the DLC? Well, we won because they were ignored.

162. Man, it's Carville that needs to go.
IMO, it's because of the likes of him, Begala, Brazille, and Shrum that we lost the last few general elections.

Dean definitely has his hand on the pulse of America, and with his plan and direction, practically won the mid-terms for us. I think with his strategy and getting the word out, as well as putting a face to a name in many states, he brought out those to vote who would've otherwise stayed home or stuck with their Repuke candidates, by not knowing any better.

I'm with Dean all the way and say it's time to be the inclusive party we say we are. To do that we have to reach out and win votes person by person, state by state.. and Howard knows that. He can stay as head as long as he wants to for all I care.

We're one America and Dems/Progressives certainly have room for all opinions and levels of conservatism, and I think Howard accepts/appreciates that. Now through tactful management and compromise with those we won over in 2006, we can retain loyalty and by retaining a balance that is neither radical or wishy-washy.

I lost Carville years ago when I realized he was whoring it up for the almighty dollar. The putz should STFU and fade into obscurity with his nasty traitorous wife in their farm n VA.

163. Dean was RIGHT on The 50 state plan...
We won in many RED states that were never touched before.....He faced the enemy without fear...and WON...
Even on Bill Mahr last night...Shummer gave DEAN kudos...and that made my day...He congratulated Dean and said, Dean should be given lots of credit. He also stated that the DNC helped fund The DCCC when they needed financial help (I think he said 6 mil) So Carville can shut his mouth up....we'll see.
I also have to say, Wes Clark was also campaigning for those Dem Candidates int RED States, where NO other dem stumpers would go....and many won....just like his appearences on Fauxie...he goes to the other side to bring truth....
You can think of the big picture, or stay in your old ways of running a campaign...and GEEZIE PEET...we WON>>>>>>>thanks to people who are not afraid reach out to many who are frustrated, but live in so called Red States....
You go DEAN!!

If it wasn't for Dean, we wouldn't have taken either house. Terry McAuliffe would have decided we weren't "competitive" enough in 3/4 of the country, and wouldn't have even tried to run candidates in a lot of races. This party owes a HUGE debt to Dean, and I hope they don't eat their own on this.

And I agree about Carville. He ran the BEST campaign I've ever seen for Clinton, but after years of marriage to Mary, I think his brain has rotted out.

Kick Howard Dean out and then watch him run, this time successfully, for the 2008 Presidential nomination. Then the DLC is REALLY screwed.

174. Who do we contact? Or can someone send this blog to the right
place? Dean won this for us by giving us the 50 state strategy. Any other solution was suicidal. He's a smart man and quite politically astute. He's the man who created our victory. The powers that be in D.C. don't like his money raising techniques because he does not cater to the big bucks genre. The more of us normal (and I purposefully selected this adjective) people who get involved the more the party stengthens. We are apt to put our vote where our contributions and our legwork are, n'est pas? And the more we personally are involved the more we will talk up our personal dems to friends and family. Let's see the Labor Party in England gets it; they have hired Dean to counsel them on their elections in May.
Emily's List has understood this strategy for years. They support pro-choice women candidates on any political level...local, state, federal...building the party and the network from the ground up.

Dean did a heck of a lot better than Carville ever could. All Carville and the DLC were capable of doing was making candidates into wishy-washy milquetoast sissy candidates who stood for nothing but "I'm not the other guy." No wonder we weren't getting any traction under them.

There's a consultant kvetching that his failed strategy has been experimentally shown to be faulty. He's whining.

Is Carville such a whimpering catamite that he wants to punish the democratic party for breaking TWO republican majorities SIMULTANEOUSLY?!!!! A continuation of Dean's tenure is necessary for future success. The statement of the day from Carville seems insanely to be: "The Dems may have won this election, but we apologize, and we are committed to seeing that it never happens again".
