Let us pray that Bush is impeached and that Alito is filibustered...Also, please allow Bill Frist to have many nightmares where cats sworm and scratch is face.

Let us pray.

I suspect that something in the Patriot law prohibits something like that..

Remember when Delay got the FAA to track Texas Democrats when they flew out of state?

19. We are at a turning point today
Edited on Mon Jan-30-06 10:09 AM by Sydnie
There are often small milestones that come and ago undetected and have impact that relies on other things to assist it to build a true change in our world. This, however, is a boulder being dropped in a smooth pond. It will splash and cause the resulting waves to change the shoreline for all and for ever.

Because it is not just one small milestone. It is a tsunami that can effect everything that come after.

As the bumper sticker says "If you're not totally appalled, you're not paying attention".

52. I have lived through a time when a crooked President was in the
White House, when a FBI director thought nothing of spying on the citizens merely because he wanted dirt with which to blackmail their speaking voice into silence, when good men are killed when that blackmail doesn't work well enough. McCarthy was merely a stage play compared to what we may be facing should this unholy trinity of government not be stopped from cementing their most powerful will upon the citizens.

We stopped them then, we must stop them now.

I would guess that you are not experienced enough in life in general or familiar enough with history to recognize what is happening to your own country. I have children and this is NOT the country that I wish to leave for them. I don't wish to leave a country that has, for all intents and purposes, an imperial president, a court and an overly powerful FBI, and NSA, where sedition will become the law of the land and dissenter will find themselves in peril for their very life. I choose to stand my ground today. I am willing to give my life in that very pursuit.

The time is now. Follow, lead, or get the hell out of the way.

32. Supposedly 41
But a lot of people are not telling how they'll vote. And it's not really that they need 41 votes against cloture. The Repukes need 60 votes for cloture to end the debate and bring it to a vote. So if we can get some people to abstain from voting yes on cloture, that's almost as good as getting people to vote no on cloture.

Edited on Mon Jan-30-06 10:57 AM by gkhouston
I'm hoping somebody mentions it on the floor today.

on edit: and I misremembered the stats. It's opposed/unsure lumped together and there were more Independents who were not pro-Alito. Here's the full text, originally posted by jsamuel, giving the poll question:

CBS News/New York Times Poll. Jan. 20-25, 2006. N=1,229 adults nationwide. MoE ± 3 (for all adults).

"As you may know, George W. Bush has nominated federal Judge Samuel A. Alito to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court. What do you think right now? Should the Senate vote to confirm Samuel Alito as a justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, or vote against Alito, or can't you say?"

Vote all adults (and by party)

Confirm 33% (Republicans 63%; Democrats 10%; Independents 31%)

Vote Against 18% (Republicans 2%; Democrats37%; Independents 13%)

Can't Say 46% (Republicans 33%; Democrats49%; Independents 52%)

Unsure 3% (Republicans 2%; Democrats 4%; Independents 4%)

My footnote: Totals from above
Opposed/unsure
37% Republican
90% Democrats
69% Independents
