9. I hope so, too...
but "NO" on Alito should be a given for ALL the pro-choice Republicans.

5. Chafee says he will vote against Alito (article)

Chafee says he will vote against Alito

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) January 30,2006

US Senator Lincoln Chafee says he will vote against Judge Samuel Alito for the U-S Supreme Court.

The Republican senator's decision could have ramifications in Rhode Island, where he is running for re-election. Cranston Mayor Stephen Laffey, who's challenging Chafee in the Republican primary this year, says he would vote to confirm Alito.

Chafee has said he was concerned about Alito's views on issues such as abortion rights, the separation of church and state and warrantless electronic wiretaps.

Both Republicans and Democrats say Alito already has enough votes to override any filibusters to derail his nomination.

Republican Senator Chaffee to Vote No on Alito
Posted by Pamela Leavey
January 30th, 2006 @ 8:01 am
Senator Lincoln Chaffee of Rhode Island announced this morning that he will vote NO on Alito’s nomination to the Supreme Court. Lincoln is the only Republican to as of yet, to announce plans to vote no.

Senator Edward Kennedy said this morning, “I think he is the wrong judge at the wrong time in the wrong place. I do not believe he is going to be part of the whole movement of the continued march towards progress in this country.”

Added Sen. Jim Jeffords of Vermont, the chamber’s lone independent: “The addition of Judge Alito would unacceptably shift the balance of the court on many critical issues facing our country.”

11. From what I've heard on WPRO Providence Radio this morning
Chaffee announced he's planning to vote to end a filibuster if necessary, and then vote against Alito. I'm looking for some sort of online confirmation to post.

13. Remember, Chafee doesn't have to "support the filibuster" -
he only has to not vote for cloture... Ben IS the White Rose Society...
