Filibuster vote today--call Sens. Lautenberg and Menendez
Dear MoveOn member,

In just a few hours the Senate will vote on whether to filibuster Bush's nomination of Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court. 41 Senators must join the filibuster to successfully block the nomination and even now it's unclear if we'll have enough votes. Sens. Lautenberg and Menendez are two of the last few Democrats in the Senate who have not yet announced their position, and there's still time to weigh in.

Blocking Alito's confirmation is a top priority and this is a critical moment for Democrats to show they can stand up and fight for what they believe in. Please call Sens. Lautenberg and Menendez right now and ask them to join the filibuster against Samuel Alito.

Senator Frank Lautenberg
Phone: 202-224-3224
District Offices:
Camden: 856-338-8922
Newark: 973-639-8700

Senator Robert Menendez
Phone: 202-224-4744
District Offices:
Barrington: 856-757-5353
Newark: 973-645-3030

Then, please report your call by clicking here:

14. Free FAX (really quick and it's web-based) here:

http://capwiz.com/thedeanpeople/mail/?id=378&id=395

Note that Menendez doesn't appear to have a direct email address yet, so the FAX option is better. Use the radio buttons to select the FAX option. This is really quick.

Thanks to AndyTiedye for help with this site!

18. Faxed the following:
Dear Senator,

I'm a Democrat one state over in New York and I implore you to filibuster Judge Alito. His support of policies that will further undermine the checks and balances in our government are of great concern to me. How much power exactly will we cede to the President? At what point does his power begin to trump all others? I fear this is already happening. This is a tipping point. Please keep America free and for the people.

Would you prefer to tell your grandchildren about how we saved our Republic, or how we lost it?

Edited on Mon Jan-30-06 01:24 PM by in_cog_ni_to
She asked for my NJ address and I told her I was from Illinois and she immediately said, "Oh, OK good bye." I said..."wait, wait, wait...won't my opinion still count?" and she said..."yes, we're keeping a tally." Probably NJ opinions v. out of state opinions?

Said he'd add my name to the tally. He is keeping a tally.
Come on Frank, don't give the chickenhawk what he wants. You were the one that carried the picture of the chickenhawk onto the Senate floor Frank. I don't care if Strip Search Sammy is from NJ, that's no reason to vote for him!!!!!

34. I spoke with Menendez's office: no cloture, filibuster, NO Alito (please)
She asked for my NJ address. I told her I'm from GA and have two Republican senators so I'm calling Democrats. I asked to have my nmae added to a list of out of state supporters. She was vey nice.

The senator's hold music SUCKS.

Both NJ senators were on the fence because of "homestate pride" but it looks like they are both voting no. now if they will only support the filibuster, we are in really good shape.
