IMPORTANT: Any Italian-Americans out there?
I SWEAR to you this is true, no matter how freaking ridiculous it may seem...

I just spoke to a very active Democrat in NJ (no names) who just got off a conference call with Lautenberg. Apparently, Menendez feels he needs to support Alito because that's what the Italian-Americans in NJ want. I am one of those Italian-Americans, (from NJ, but my husband is stationed in FL, so I am registered to vote in FL) and if this wasn't as serious as it is, I would almost be tempted to laugh. Please contact these 2 Senators. This is insane. Here's their contact info.:

Senator Frank Lautenberg
Phone: 202-224-3224
District Offices:
Camden: 856-338-8922
Newark: 973-639-8700

Senator Robert Menendez
Phone: 202-224-4744
District Offices:
Barrington: 856-757-5353
Newark: 973-645-3030

1. He only represents Italian-Americans? WTF???
HUH??? That is outrageous! If you are not Italian-American, I suggest you think about finding someone to represent you on the Hill.

"is from New Jersey." (They=the NJ senators)

Is that code for Italian now? *shaking head*

You should hear the rant: "Tony Soprano is from NJ, should HE be on the Supreme Court?" Heh.

9. Alito gives hard working Italian Americans a bad name
almost as much as every mob-flick I've ever seen...but far less entertaining.

Alito and anyone else who thinks him a proper Italian American can kiss my liberal-off-white-dago ass.

10. My Nonno came here from Italy through Ellis Island....
If he was still alive, he would call Alito out for what he is...a fascist pig.

12. Mine passed away two years ago
Saw Ellis holding my great gransmother's hand in the same year that his father died from the Influenza pandemic as she clutched my uncle in her other arm. He worked like hell.

He worked his ass off so that his kids could go to college and not have to work in the factory like he did. A dem from the moment he could vote and a union man the moment he could join. His grandchildren are all college educated and struggling to get by in the world that has forgotten just what the American Dream really is about.

My first child is coming in August. I want very much to name him Nicola after his great grand-father. I truly miss him every time I think about my family.

Alito strikes me as the kind of Italian American who cozies up to these blue-bloods all under some moral justification of the more conservative (and archaic) Catholic mindset...just like that rat Scalia.

13. Well my Nana isn't buying it.
She's a strict Catholic. During the election, she was told to vote for Bush. She respectfully told the people at her church that George Bush would spit on Jesus Christ if he got the chance. I was so proud of her. It couldn't have been easy since she holds these people in such high regard. She's not buying into it about Alito, either. My Nonno and her knew what it is to work hard to achieve the American dream, as well, and they ALWAYS voted Democratic. My Nonno used to say he would vote for a dead pig before he voted Ray-publican.

2. My grandfather would spit at the mention of the Fundie Christians
and in his last years he despised the false Christians who would claim that Dubya was some kind of messiah. He was the first to point it out to me that they don't even consider Catholics to be Christians and often call us "Papists."

Give your Nana a hug for me won't you? My grandparents have all died in the past 5 years and I truly miss them...as pathetic as it sounds I actually get teary eyed thinking about them...

14. Thanks, saw that and mentioned it in my email
I am of Italian heritage and my name is distinctly Italian. I told him we already have an Italian surname on the Supreme Court, Scalia, and I don't want another one just like him just because he is of Italian heritage.

My husband is 100% Italian and I am 1/3. We both oppose the nomination and have been calling, faxing and emailing for the past 2 weeks. I cannot believe that excuse is even being offered.
