CNN just in -- Gang of 14 to stop Dems filibuster attempt
Edited on Mon Jan-30-06 12:56 PM by DeepModem Mom
If this is true, I don't have the heart to say anything else.

ON EDIT, the 7 Gang Dems:

Joseph I. Lieberman, Connecticut
Robert C. Byrd, West Virginia
E. Benjamin Nelson, Nebraska
Mary Landrieu, Louisiana
Daniel Inouye, Hawaii
Mark Pryor, Arkansas
Ken Salazar, Colorado

ANOTHER EDIT:

The banner across the screen used the words "to stop" filibuster, but other posters understand that CNN only has word that the 14 are meeting.

3. VERY fast way to contact all Gang of 14 members with free online FAX/email
Edited on Mon Jan-30-06 01:06 PM by Wordie
Through just these two links, you can contact ALL the members of the Gang of 14, quickly and easily. You can send either a FREE FAX or an email. Use the radio buttons to select which you wish to send. OR, even better, do BOTH. If you want to do both, make a copy of your email message before you send it, then use the "back" button in your browser to go back to the original page, click "refresh" in your browser, change the radio button to "FAX" and paste the message into the box. Then fill out the subject line again and click to send a FAX too!

6. Can they?
Can they stop it if there's not enough cloture votes otherwise?

10. I think the only way for the gang to fail would be
if there are surprise Repubs who vote against cloture. Otherwise, if the gang tries to block the filibuster I think they can do it

:(

22. Exactly!!!!
The gang of 14 appears to only help Republicans!!

This gang quells dissent, and stops filibusters.

This bi-partisan group of Dems and Reps does nothing for the Dems, and
makes things easier for the Republicans.

I'll Google these bastards, to remind myself of the names of the ultimate sell outs
and traitors.

Edited on Mon Jan-30-06 12:55 PM by Walt Starr
And there will be no filibuster due to the fact that the Dems can't get it together.

Gee, there's a silver lining, huh :puke:

16. Interesting. The vote must be close or they wouldn't be trotting out
the gang of 14 at the eleventh hour. Wonder if they really will vote as a bloc or if this is just spin.

17. This would mean...
...that the Dems willingly and knowingly helped to usher in the Alito confirmation.

The Dems would be even MORE guilty than the Reps, because they do have the ability to
stop the nomination and they are refusing to do so.

I will wait to pass full judgment.

27. OMG...I hope you're right.
The repukes came out after their first meeting and IMMEDIATELY said they would not keep their promises if the Democrats ever tried to do something they didn't agree with. I HOPE the 7 Dems REMEMBER THAT! DeWine was one of the assholes who said that AND Lindsey Graham!

31. Watching young turks, Cenk had a caller that talked to Pryor's
staffer. that staffer said that he was going to abstain from voting on cloture. He is on the gang of 14. This certainly isn't official, but the caller said it came from a staffer.

Wouldn't that put a chink in the gang of 14's plans to stop a filibuster?

35. CanNeverNoodle NothingNews missed that Pryor will ABSTAIN and
that is a totally perfect strategy WITHIN the 14Gang agreement -- nobody said that Dems had to have the backside of repukes on their getting 60 votes for cloture!!!

ALSO :: So sorry to hear about Ensign (R-NV) who was hospitalized this morning after a car accident ... we pray for his full recovery; however, it is possible that such a horrible turn of events may put dr strangefrist on a shorter list for his cloture vote this p.m. BUT I bet that cee.no.no media tool won't report that either.
