2. Abstaining is ok by me...
...if those on the fence about a fillibuster just manage to abstain or forget to show up, that'll be enough. This CAN BE stopped...

Reject the media manipulation. Not a done deal.

4. Yes he will
I just called his D.C. office and the staffer told me that he is going to abstain....Still kind of ticks me off but at least he's not voting for cloture.

6. Not The Best News - But It Still Helps
Remember, they have to get to 60. This doesn't help them do that.

1. Right
It's better than being there and voting yes. Good! I'm so happy about this!

9. actually, it could be good
there may be others who don't want to go all the way to "no". Now that there's someone in the "abstain" camp, a few weak "yes" votes might shift to "abstain". They can tell everyone they aren't supporting the filibuster -- and they aren't -- but they also aren't supporting cloture.

7. Excellent news! A Democrat who votes to shut down fellow Democrats is
like a scab crossing a picket line. We should tag them with it. Is this how these Bush toady Democrats want to be known--as SCABS?

8. Thats good news. But why is Tom Harkin such a coward?
He may be a nice man but hes no fighter.

Disappointing.

10. i called his office about this a couple weeks ago (maybe just
a week ago)

staffer said he doesn't want to vote for alito but he's getting a ton of calls telling him TO VOTE for alito

maybe this is the best he can do in a bad situation.

as long as he doesn't vote FOR cloture
