The Repos just enforced time on Kerry on the floor
and cut his speech! They didn't allow him to finish.

This is good because the Repos are scared.

They are pushing back.

Kerry was great.

3. They just opened up a perfect argument for the filibuster
They cut off a Senator before he finished. There is no reason to end debate now until everybody has had their full say!

100,000 hours on Kerry. He can talk about whatever he wishes to speak about as a severe punishment to Rethugs (and allow without ANY interruptions to Repugs) to yield to whoever they wish to any Dem who's anti-Alito and pro-filibuster. And REFUSE to give the Repukes any favors. Payback WILL be a bitch come 2006 (when Dems re-capture the majority once again)

Like the Repug couldn't allow another 15 minutes. Where the hell is he off to? Isn't this more important?

6. yes Kerry was good
and your right from my own watching of the Senate I think you've got him dead to rights on their being scared.
The Senator McConnell from Kentucky was being an asshat! Usually, Senators do allow each other to finish their debate points and do allow the other the extra time. Yes, they are scared.....Good.

7. CNN just Kerry should have started the filibuster sooner
Totally ignoring the fact that he did start it earlier. Just because the "news" ignored it doesn't mean it didn't happen. Oh and they also snidely remarked that there are already enough votes to quash the effort, again ignoring the fact that there aren't.

12. He couldn't have
He was in the ME for the SFRC until a week ago thursday. He declared himself against Alito on Sunday and spoke for filibuster with Kennedy at the Democratic caucus on Wednesday. Pretty fast work actually. The problem was that Reid of some on the Judiciary committee should have led this.

8. McConnell cried "uncle" -- couldn't take it --- Bad move
The "optics" of it look bad. "Oh, my schedule is more important." What?!?

AND he's letting our highest profile advocate have 2 bites of the apple.

Far more viewers.

9. So McConnell spoke for 15 minutes - frankly saying nothing new
Edited on Mon Jan-30-06 01:30 PM by karynnj
Now it is silence. He really needed to be rude didn't he. Silence for 15 minutes already. This is petty beyond belief he could easily have given Kerry the 10 or even 15 minutes asked for.

If Kerry or another Democrat would have done this to a Republican, the media would be screaming that they are petty and rude.

10. How does it work? If he wants to do a fili, does he just stay up there and
refuse to leave, declare a fili, or what?

the nuclear option. :) They see the filibuster support growing and just can't handle it.

15. Stabenow
Frankly, Stabenow went on for too long before Kerry. Maybe Kerry wasn't on the floor & ready to go, but she took too much of the Democratic hour. She is not the speaker that JK is.

16. Still, Senators usually defer. It's remarkable that they didn't. What
you descibe happens all the time yet Senators are usually allowed to finish their remarks.
