Received mass email from Kennedy's office. "Doing everything they can."

Dear XXXXXX,

Nothing makes us stronger than the values of equality and justice that Americans throughout our nation's history have fought tirelessly to preserve and advance. Now our commitment to these values is being tested once again: Samuel Alito's nomination to the Supreme Court threatens the fundamental rights and freedoms we cherish, and we must do everything we can to protect them.

It is for this reason that Senator Kerry and I are doing everything we can to keep Samuel Alito off the Supreme Court. The crucial vote will come this afternoon, when Senators vote on whether to end debate and vote on the nomination.

Samuel Alito's troubling record speaks for itself. The Senate Judiciary Committee hearings confirmed our worst fears, and we have to take the strongest possible stand against him.

Americans deserve better. We need Supreme Court Justices whose commitment to protecting our rights and freedoms is beyond dispute -- a Court whose members transcend partisan politics to inspire Americans, not divide us.

The vote by the Senate on a Supreme Court Justice is second only to the vote to send our men and women to war.

I hope you will join me and do everything you can to protect the values that unite us as Americans.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Edward M. Kennedy

P.S. Too often, Americans take our rights for granted -- and that's never been more dangerous. Remind yourself of what's at stake and then make your case to others.

1. Thank you for reminding me to visit TedKennedy.com I try to visit
as often as I can to show support and leave a blog message but with the Alito danger have been writing so much to Congress and the media haven't had time to get back to thank Unka Teddy.

I am glad to have a link to the Amendments -- I think it was a good idea when someone suggested that during the filibuster the Dems read the Fourth Amendment over and over and the danger alito presents.

Amendment IV

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
