DON'T lie about your residency! They all have caller ID and know if
Edited on Mon Jan-30-06 01:53 PM by Amaryllis
you are calling from out out of state. My senator's office told me that a year or so ago. If they get a bunch of calls from people lying about their zip code, it lessens our chances of having an impact.

31. but note that
*67 doesn't block ANI, which is the system that sends your phone number for a toll-free call. You can't block sending along your number with 800, 888, etc, calls -- the idea is that the person paying for the call gets to see who is calling. They may or may not have real-time number ID, however, but they'll get the phone number on their bill.

8. Don't twist the truth..
Edited on Mon Jan-30-06 02:10 PM by converted_democrat
I was the one that said we should use a puke tactic, but I never said to lie about anything.. All I asked was for people to call local offices too.. I was the one that started this, but I did not tell or even suggest that anyone should lie.. I just said to call local offices too. Don't twist it.

on edit- here is a link to what I wrote..

18. I told you a dozen times in that other thread that I didn't tell anyone to
lie, but you kept up on my case.. Why? I still don't have any idea.. I'm just making it clear I told no one to lie..

"and when i finally gave up and said whatever you say, oh not lie. which is what the whole thread and my whole argument was. so........you can think this is a post against you,"

What is that?? I have no clue what any of that even means..

20. I also was responding to the Turks. Senators ALL have caller ID now;
my senator's office told me when I told him I was a constituent. He said he already knew because of my phone number prefix.

17. I never even saw your post. I WAS NOT twisting what you said. I
have heard a number of people say to use fake zip codes when calling and was addressing them. i absolutely advocate calling from out of state, but just not representing yourself as a resident. Don't assume someone is responding to your post unless they specifically do respond to your post; there are thousands of people posting and you simply can't assume someone is reacting or responding to yours.

We are all their constitutents.
If they take money for campaigning from people outside their states then they need to represent them also, and should be reminded of this.

Money or no money, votes determine constituency, or at least they did last time I checked the Constitution. Money is a freedom of speech issue.

11. No, flatly, you're still wrong.
Senators serve the people of their state and NO ONE else. If you want to donate to them, that's your choice, but that Senator has no responsibility whatsoever to you. You may choose to donate or not donate.

but I have called and spoken to many, many senate offices over the last week, because regardless of my state of residence, how they vote will affect the entire United States for many, many years.

26. That's perfectly fine.
Just don't call yourself their constituent and expect them to take you seriously at all. 9 times out of 10, unless you live within their boundaries, they don't give a great goddamn, no matter what the intern who took your call says.

7. Feinstein WILL filibuster! (Haven't checked her site yet)
"Some encouraging news from diaries at dkos. Feinstein WILL filibuster! Just spoke to SF Office! http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2006/1/27/154519/880
Salazar is taking a poll, call him now!!! they answer and ask me if I support or don't support a filibuster and that's all they want to know.

Ken Salazar (D- CO) 202-224-5852

They will ask what city you are calling from.

CALL THEY SAY THEYRE EVEN TALLYING YOU IF YOU SAY YOU *AREN'T* A CONSTITUENT! PLEASE!"

http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2006/1/27/155145/128

"Take a look at the comments on this news story, The Next Hurrah. Looks like a bloodbath will nsue over this issue. Wake up, the people are speaking LOUDLY. One example from: RawStory Comments

Here's a gutless Dem

Nelson of NE voted YES for Alito.

Remember that f******* name

NELSON

So what's the call Senator? You really think no one will notice your capitulation?

But someone WILL NOTICE, Democrats: THOSE OF US WILLING AND ABLE TO PAY
ATTENTION. Everyone knows what is going on, and with an ounce of self-preservation, NOBODY will back your party EVER AGAIN on "faith."

Got it? "Trust us" walks out the door NOW -- you can save your 2006 campaign ad money. This filibuster, or not, SAYS IT ALL about your values and your principles, or your corrupt consciences and your sold-out character.

The tone to the select few will get worse as the weekend drags."

21. I'm faxing for family members
We're all in critical states, but I'm the one who is at home and has a fax. Their names and *forwarded by a relative* goes on every fax.

No one seems annoyed and besides, when I had an efax number it was a Montana phone number, even though I lived in Colorado. And with number portability and unlimited long distance, telephones are no longer reliable. (And what about people on the road for business - should they not have a chance to call their reps, too?)
