Army of the right hits the beach hotel

Hundreds of college conservatives convene at a Santa Barbara resort to talk campus activism.
By Steve Chawkins, Times Staff Writer
November 12, 2006

SANTA BARBARA — They're more clean-cut than most campus crowds, and better dressed. They aren't crazy about affirmative action, Roe vs. Wade, or Tuesday's election results.

Some 500 college conservatives are in town for the weekend from across the U.S. for a political jump-start in the wake of a national Republican drubbing.

Michael Reagan, son of the late president and a conservative talk-show host, told the crowd at Fess Parker's Doubletree Resort, a beachfront hotel, that many of the Republicans who lost Tuesday had brought defeat upon themselves.

"The Republican Party was held accountable for walking away from the ideals and values that got them elected — the ideals of my father," he said. "It's up to you to bring them back."

"We need to pray for Nancy Pelosi, for John Conyers, for Henry Waxman," he said. "If we don't, how are we to know that things won't get worse in this world that we live in?"

"Thus there are five factors from which victory can be known:

"One who knows when he can fight, and when he cannot fight, will be victorious.
"One who recognizes how to employ large and small numbers will be victorious.
"One whose upper and lower ranks have the same desires will be victorious.
"One who, fully prepared, awaits the unprepared will be victorious.
"One whose general is capable and not interfered with by the ruler will be victorious.

"These five are the Way (Tao) to know victory." -- Sun-tzu.

Go get 'em Young Democrats of America. May the Force be with you.

4. Great. Arlington West was up for two days -- hope they walked over and saw the crosses
The crosses on the beach now take up 9/10 of an acre. It would take more space but after 2,000 the group started shortening the space between crosses.

Most folks who walk by and see this are just staggered at how many crosses it takes to memorialize the nearly 3,000 American fallen from this needless war. I'd like to know if any of these conservative youths went to see it and what they thought.

8. I'd like to know
Just how much time these fine Christian Republican college students spend watching pay-per-view porn while at the hotel.

9. How many of these were born on third base and thought they hit a triple??
Just like little Mikey Reagan.

How many were non-white?

How many had signed up to serve in *'s war?

How many had ever flipped burgers or said "do you want fries with that" to help pay their way thru college (or did their rich daddy pay for everything)?
