There's usually an -IC at the end of Democrat.
As in "Democratic Party." It's a proper adjective. We are Democrats, we belong to the party of Democrats, and we call it the Democratic Party.

I know that most of y'all know this already, but "Democrat Party" is more than just Republican code-speak, it's annoying and it sounds ignorant. Not to mention the derivatives, e.g. "Democrat agenda" and "Democrat plan."

It started in just the last year or two, and I don't know who started it or why (I suspect it's so Republican die-hards can recognize one another, like a Masonic secret handshake), but it's getting really old. In fact, it's starting to piss me off.

1. Don't cave to their childish psy-ops.
Just ignore it and call them Rape-Publicans like Sam Seder does.

2. I just ignore it.
And it appears Democrats on tv ignore them too. I am listening to today's Washington Journal right now where Michael Steele and Donna Brazile are the guests and I heard Steele say "Democrat party" and Brazile didn't correct him.

10. Ignoring problems got us in to this situation. And it is normal for Brazile to ignore them. (nt)

3. If a high ranking Dem is interviewed . . .
. . . and the interviewer uses that offensive truncation, I think they should stop speaking, tell the interviewer, "Look, if you want this interview to continue, you'll get the name of my party straight. I'm a member of the DEMOCRATIC party, not the DEMOCRAT party. It's disrespectful and rude. Now get it straight."

4. Just call them the pubic party. They are either concerned with
a woman's ovaries, homosexual sex, and the measurements of young pages.

7. I had to correct my own mother,
while she was making a small speech at a Move On party last night. The language is insinuating itself into people's brains, and it must be combatted.

This is a good article about the phenomenon. http://www.newyorker.com/talk/content/articles/060807ta_talk_hertzberg

The contemporary usage of the term can be traced back to Newt Gingrich and Frank Luntz.

8. You are my hero of the day.
I talk to my friends and coworkers about this, and they look at me as if I've just informed them that I was kidnapped as a child by Martian werewolves.

16. I appreciate it, but my mother is the real hero.
She was talking about her plans to set up a Democratic party office for our local area, which she decided needed to be done when she went looking for Dem yard signs, but could only get Repub ones in this area. She slipped when she was talking and said she could find Republican signs but not "Democrat" ones.

So, she's going to be doing something real and concrete for the party, while I just correct her grammar.:)

9. It's as offensive as saying "Jew" instead of "Jewish"...
imagine commentators & pundits spouting off about the "Jew agenda" and the "Jew plan." The outrage would be HUGE and JUSTIFIED. Insulting Democrats is just as unacceptable, and must be stopped.

14. Our candidates need to
turn the tables when our opponents say "Democrat Party" in debates.

Here's the response I want to see: "If you can't get the name of America's oldest political party right, what makes you qualified for the U.S. Senate? Did you skip Civics 101 in high school or something?"

Another one I'm starting to see lately is the "National Democrat Party". This turned up in George Felix Allen's campaign literature and the Repugs may have been floating it as a test balloon in selected campaigns in preparation to take that usage national. WTF is the "National Democrat Party?" It almost sounds like an insiduous attempt to link us to German Nazism i.e. the National Socialist Party.

15. Some of us are holding their "AN" hostage.
They will be known as the Republic Party until such time as we get our "IC" back.
PLUS Reparations.
