My partner just explained the Karma of the Rove situation.
Had Rove been indicted over the Plame case, possible he would not have been so engaged in the election and his massive screw-ups would not have worked in the Dems favor.

1. I hate to say it...
But I think that your partner is wrong on this one. Rove tried his damnedest, but didn't count on the fact that swinging various races by 3-5% wouldn't be enough this time. The Fitz had nothing to do with it.

2. Read my post again. The fact that Rove wasn't indicted meant that he
could devote all his energy and focus on the elections. My partner had said before that Rove was not so much "brilliant" as "evil." He predicted that Rove would misread the voting public for this election.

3. Yes.. I think the recipe has been: closely divided electorate, whipped up into a bitter
partisan divide. Season lightly with voter disenfranchisement, registration shenanigans, and vote suppression (plus whatever machine and other fraud is available to you) applied at strategic races. Add slime/swiftboating. Result = election win.

Doesn't work all of a sudden when you are facing a huge wave of resentment to your corruption and arrogance, and have to compete in races all over the country where you can't pick out the "safe" versus "contentious" seats anymore.

We still need verified voting.

4. "We still need verified voting."
Yes, indeed, my Machiavellian friend. That should be the TOP priority for the Congressional Democrats over the next two years.

5. verified voting paper trails are not the answer !!!!!!

Yes, there was fraud in the '06 elections due to electronic voting machines. We won't win again in '08, UNLESS we have real election reform. Verified voting/ Paper trails are NOT the solution, according to vote-fraud experts.

**Please** call your elected officials - Tell them to support a new bill introduced by Dennis Kucinich, HR 6200, calling for paper ballots and hand-counts. ** This is the new bill that can save our democracy ! **
