Maliki wants US troops in Iraq confined to their bases
Al-Maliki wants the Americans confined to bases for him to call on in emergencies, he boldly predicted his army could crush violence within six months if left alone to do the work.

The country's Sunni defense minister challenged Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's contention that the U.S. military should quickly pull back into bases and let the Iraqi army take control of security countrywide.

Defense Minister Abdul-Qadir al-Obaidi rejected calls by al-Maliki for the U.S. military to speed transfer of security operations throughout the country to the Iraqi army, saying his men still were too poorly equipped and trained to do the job.

The top U.S. commander in Iraq, Gen. George Casey last month said it would take 12 to 18 months before Iraq's army was ready to take control of the country with some U.S. backup.

4. Uh, no.
The bulk of U.S. casualties have come from vehicle convoys from road-side bombs and attacks. The bases are relatively safe.

5. No
Insurgents kill with IEDs and snipers. They can't take on US bases.

Where did I hear that 'Over the horizon' line before?

6. One step away from asking the US Forces and their Mercs to
leave Iraq? A convenient exit strategy for Busholini?

7. Freeps already think we fight with one hand tied behind the back
As if killing more would cause fewer terrorists. They are violent idiots.

9. Saddam was able to keep the terrorists out
The US would never accept the kind of violence needed to keep a country like Iraq together and terrorists out.

Tito and Saddam were able to keep fractious angry multi-ethnoreligious countries together.

10. True. And is Bush getting close to the dead Iraqi count of Saddam?
I know he's killed more Americans for his war-for-profit racket than Osama's loons killed.

12. 11 threads and not one person has figured it out
Maliki wants our troops to consign themselves to base so that the Shia militias can clean house and "end" the problem.

14. Perhaps he and the Busholini Regime think that
the Shia Malitias can end "the problem". I have read that there are at least 200,000 involved in the Insurgency. Could Shia Death Squads eliminate anywhere close to that many people?

17. This seems like a good first step. BAD BOOSH!
And it's their idea. It's another slap to Bush.

Do it! Stop bumbling around the country making a bad presence.
