Novak: GOP Unchanged..."the stupid party"
GOP Unchanged

By Robert D. Novak
Monday, November 13, 2006; A21

The depleted House Republican caucus, a minority in the next Congress, convenes in the Capitol at 8 a.m. Friday on the brink of committing an act of supreme irrationality. The House members blame their leadership for their tasting the bitter dregs of defeat. Yet the consensus so far is that, in secret ballot, they will reelect some or all of those leaders.

In private conversation, Republican members of Congress blame Majority Leader John Boehner and Majority Whip Roy Blunt in no small part for their midterm election debacle. Yet either Boehner, Blunt or both are expected to be returned to their leadership posts Friday. For good reason, the GOP often is called "the stupid party."
.....

That is the view that led Republicans to earmark a "Bridge to Nowhere" and hundreds of other projects in competitive districts, hoping it would save them on Election Day. The House has been a place where Rep. Don Young (a notorious Alaska porker) was setting national transportation policy, where the "cardinals" on the Appropriations Committee established earmarking records, where the pharmaceutical industry had a pipeline to party policy and where even Speaker Hastert was making personal profits on an earmark. Maybe that's what Republicans want to retain, even in the minority.

11. Which RW pundit said he'd retire if Dems won?
I remember reading it here on Du, but I don't remember which gasbag it was. There are so many, it's hard to keep them straight.

27. I sort of remember him back in the old Crossfire days saying he
was a registered Democrat. This way he could vote in our primaries with the intent of sucking them up. Was I dreaming this? Anyone?

2. I say the same for the media that keeps political pundits that have hardly been
right on any issue. They keep the same faces with the same old tired rhetoric, the same old hatreds and even with a massive push for change by the people these media outlets keep the same old faces. Stupid is as stupid does I guess.

12. I find it very telling that they will use "secret ballot"
because they want to vote their consciences , without being coerced, but when they are voting to screw the public or spend our money, they simply MUST know how they are all voting, so the "hit men" can go around forcing them to change their votes..

...will knock some sense into them. The GOP needs to be relegated to backbench status for another 40 years, IMHO.

All this finger pointing is uncalled for. Nobody made mistakes. It's just that people have realized your GOP religion of hate and greed just sucks from start to finish. You never had a chance.

Buh bye, Bush league lapdog crony pedophile criminal hypocrite loser Republican Congress! :nopity:

Oh and by the way: It would be a little easier for you if you would just
GET OVER IT!!

18. This is very telling
Of the mentality of pundits in the media, that they really have not a single belief of their own. They have only an interest in keeping their pay by saying anything that works for their owners.

19. Remember the Idiot/Asshole distinction: Forgive the stupid, not the evil
The Republicans have done plenty of stupid things, which I'd be happy to forgive, except that so much stupidity was done for greedy, evil reasons.

21. If the GOP is stupid or has gotten stupid (which I think they are and have),
then let's learn vicariously from their mistakes and not repeat them. That means being honest and squeaky clean and above reproach and avoiding the very appearance of evil. The watchword today is that if you do it, you are going to get caught. If it is illegal, unethical, or immoral, don't do it.

22. The old blame game
The repukes are always trying to blame somebody else. Or somebody on another planet. Why don't they say it is just as much my fault because my performance and the results were no good.

23. Maybe Count Novakula is running scared
now than the Dems. have Congress. If Fitz doesn't get him, maybe we'll find a way to indict his sorry ass for violating the Espionage Act in the Valerie Plame outing, along with Libby, Rove, and Cheney. Congress has the responsibility to investigate treasonous acts.

29. Novak thinks we’re stupid
Here’s Novak after 2004:

“The electorate is simply too conservative for the Democrats, as shown by the defeat of Senate Democratic Leader Tom Daschle in South Dakota.”

Does he now reach the conclusion that the electorate is simply too liberal for the Republicans? (Or, more accurately, the Republicans have become too conservative for the electorate. Becoming simply a parody of itself, racing each other to adopt the ideologically correct positions on everything from Gays (bad) to Jesus (good) to guns (good) to Mexicans (bad) to gay Mexicans named Jesus with guns (very bad, despite the guns and the name).

It’s more than just the corruption and the spendthrift pork barreling that ticked off average folks: it’s the insane “Armageddon is coming so I may as well sexually harass pages (or, in Hastert’s case, eat them), borrow and spend on goodies for my district, get us stuck in Iraq and exchange cash for votes, because I’m going to get raptured any day now anyway” belief system that underlies it.
