So Florida voters aren't stupid, huh?

The 1918 U.S. 24-cent airmail stamp known as the 'Inverted Jenny' is seen in this picture from November 2, 2005. A Florida voter may have unwittingly lost hundreds of thousands of dollars by using an extremely rare stamp to mail an absentee ballot in Tuesday's congressional election, a government official said Friday. The 1918 Inverted Jenny stamp, which takes its name from an image of a biplane accidentally printed upside-down, turned up Tuesday night in Fort Lauderdale, where election officials were inspecting ballots from parts of south Florida, Broward County Commissioner John Rodstrom told Reuters.

22. The county
They'll put it up for auction. Now that this one has a unique story behind it, it's possible it will be even more valuable.

Value of the stamp is about $2,000,000.00

And to top it off, the vote didn't count!!! No return address on the envelope!

5. before we paint this person as stupid it is possible this was an elderly

8. Exactly. I agree.
I figure it's an older person losing some of their sight or maybe early Alzheimer's.

Not anything to laugh at really.

21. Either that, or an elderly person being cared for by someone who has no
knowledge at all of stamps (I certainly don't) and who went rooting around in a drawer
for postage to mail the elderly voter's ballot.
(Just speculating, I know.)

6. I feel real bad for the person....I certainly could see myself doing
something like this and not even known it. I don't spend a hell of a lot of time looking at stamps. I lick 'em , stick 'em, and send 'em.

11. Not the state, the Federal government,,,
US Mail and all that.

And I agree, probably an elderly person who found the stamps that were left as probably a deceased spouses priceless stamp collection.

15. I read that it is the state's property now.
It is probably a fake. There are only 6 out of the 100 originals unaccounted for. They have to keep the ballot as is for 22 months. And on top of that, the ballot was not counted because there was no identification with it!

I just wonder if this voter had also been confused by the butterfly ballot in 2000?

13. Well... There Are Some Extremely STUPID People In Florida And Most
of them have been in POWER for far too long! But there are "bubbles" rising to surface in different pockets here and there. Repukes have taken a hit here and THE BIG Team is trying to make a slippery move... Mel Martinez! Latinos are leaving them in a state where "their" Jebby could speak their language, but a Jebby who didn't think much about them after he got elected!

For many in my area, a place of the Witch Cruella, local Democrats have been making inroads and a place THEY can't afford to lose. Under the radar, but still simmering is an election in District 13 that STINKS to high heaven. Just my speculation, but there's some HEAVY sweating going on here.

OMG, something was just mention4ed about this race here, and I MISSED it!

And my phone just rang and I will be volunteering with the recount this Wednesday!!

So, I'm Not Stupid and I'm NOT WITH Stupid... but I DO get the MESSAGE here! I just needed to chime in!

24. Not in my part of it.
Went out to dinner last night and at every table near us people were talking about how bad Bush is. All were older folks and all were very pissed off about the war, etc.

18. Any source for this? It was already done in the re-make of Brewster's
Millions starring Richard Pryor in 1985. That's why I'm curious if this is, in fact, true.

23. You do know also don't you that the voter
actually did not sign the envelope so his/her vote did not count either.

AND - I can't believe it actually got through the postal system - not enough postage

Please don't make broad brush slams. One unobservant voter does not a state of stupid voters make. Thanks.
