12. The C-Span scoreboard doesn't show a vote for her.

Odd, because we've gotten so many reports of what she will do. It must be because she hasn't spoken yet.

10. She's good on environmental issues, but she puts her finger in the wind
on many other areas.

14. And Alito may be a threat environmentally, too. He may undo env.
protections under the Commerce Clause.

7. Cantwell should sit out the filibuster
but only if the rest of the Dems stand united, which isn't going to happen. If I were a Dem strategist, I'd have her, Byrd and Nelson sit out the filibuster. She's going to have a difficult re-election bid. The Dems in Washington have never really liked her, and the pukes might run Dino Rossi, who has huge name rec, because of that whole governor thing.

16. I just got off the phone with her Seattle office...
Cantwell is scheduled to speak to Alito today. I asked her if she had yet - staffer said no, not yet, which is probably why she hasn't make a intent yet... Murray did the same thing...

I urged her to support the filibuster and vote no, and thanked the staffer.

You can call local offices: 206-220-6400 for Cantwell (This is where I just called), and 206-553-5545 for Murray

18. Cantwell's contact information:
http://cantwell.senate.gov/contact/index.cfm

She's very worried about Dino Rossi because she is fanatically anti-gun -- this in a state where 70 percent of the voters are unyieldingly in favor of the right to keep and bear arms. The Republicans make no secret of their intent to campaign against her on that issue -- Cantwell reportedly opposes ALL private ownership of firearms, is also accused of opposing even the right to self-defense -- and now she is weaseling on the most important Supreme Court appointment in the nation's history, probably hoping beyond hope it will win her some traction with the state's small but disproportionately powerful Christian fundamentalist faction. No other explanation -- at least none that I can think of -- makes any sense: ultimately yet another example of how Democrats destroy themselves by becoming entwined with hysterical anti-gun fanaticism.

But in this instance it's the nation itself that's on the brink of destruction: Alito's record shows that his confirmation will mark the end of American liberty forever, and Cantwell has yet to indicate even how she will vote on the appointment itself, much less cloture. Plus she insults our intelligence by the fact there is not one word about the Alito controversy on her website.

I have written Cantwell several times urging her to vote against Alito, and at least twice urging her to support the filibuster. But I have yet to receive a single answer. Maybe other DUers will have better luck.
