I didn't know what I was doing on Election Day! I made HUGE mistakes!
I've been keeping up with my former hometown newspaper online since the election. I was curious to see how the Dallas Republica--oops, Morning News handled the news that EVERY SINGLE candidate they endorsed for this election lost. They tend to have a "let us tell you what's good for you" smug attitude, so I've been peeking at their op-ed page to see how they've been handling it.

I'd say VERY badly. Seriously, there have been editorials, columns and letters to the editor SCOLDING anyone who voted straight party Democratic ticket on Election Day. Telling them they "didn't know what they were doing." They're acting like a two year old throwing a tantrum.

I have never seen such arrogance on behalf of a newspaper in all my life. It's stunning.

Then there's the condescending, barely-disguised racism. You see, Dallas County got its first African-American District Attorney on election day, Craig Watkins, a Democrat. His opponent was a white Republican named Toby Shook who was supposed to be a total shoo-in.

Well, Watkins won. And the paper has been making snide comments about that being the fault of the "southern sector." By "southern sector" they mean "poor and black." They just CAN'T BELIEVE that the "southern sector" has enough electoral clout to pull this off. It's just shocking to their poor sensibilities that the voters can say they want something different.

And here's the best part, the VERY best part: now, suddenly, the Dallas Morning News is endorsing NON-PARTISAN judge races. Oh my. 41 Republican judges get kicked out on their asses and replaced by Democrats and suddenly we need NON-PARTISAN judge races, huh?

All those years Republicans held all the courts in their fist, it was FINE to have partisan races for judgeships. But now? Oh my.

Fuck them. I voted for every Democrat on my county's ticket and I knew damn well what I was doing and fuck them for saying otherwise about myself or any voter in the state.

If you're so inclined, you can check all of this out for yourself, over the last week: www.dallasnews.com Makes me very happy I moved. I'm glad Dallas County is now blue, but I'm also glad I don't live where the paper (one paper city) is so arrogant.

4. I'd love it if they would just go quiet.
This totally upset their comfy lives, so they're screaming about it in the paper for a while.

In person, republicans have gone VERY quiet. Eerily quiet.

9. Kind of like TERM LIMITS in 1994 - great idea until Pubs had the power.
Suddenly term limits didn't seem so great anymore. Watch for them to reappear in 2008, however.

11. The only paper in a city of a million +
and their circulation is still in the crapper.

They give me a "special" rate for Sunday only and when the 3 months expires they try to bill me the regular rate. I just call and say 'forget it I won't pay that' and they give me the 'special' rate again.

It's not like I read it. We need it for the coupons.

Oh, and their being sued for age discrimination by a big group of editors/reporters who they laid off last year. Funny how the editorial board now has MORE members than before the big layoff. And strangely, they're all younger and less experienced. I think those laid off editors have a great case and I hope they take a big chunk of change out of Belo's ass.

12. Poor losers. Just like a bully.
My rw mother gloated terribly after '04. I read her emails & thought I was reading back in grade school. Last Wednesday morning there was an email from her. I guess she thought I was going to gloat like she did & felt she had to diffuse it by sending something first. :eyes:

When the MSM finally came out & reported that there were no WMD in Iraq, faux still hadn't done so. When I was telling her that all the other stations had finally admitted that there were none, she actually stuck her fingers in her ears & said "La, la, la, I'm not listening to you." You could have knocked me over with a feather to see a 70 year old woman behave that way.

They are like badly behaved children. They should be sent to their rooms for a permanent time out.

13. I was happy to see that every Replublican Judge that ran
against a Dem lost their seat. I was pretty shocked to see so many democratic candidate signs up in the suburb of Dallas I live in. Very refreshing. Maybe we can make Dallas blue like Austin.
