Letter to a former President |
|
Dear George Herbert Walker Bush,
I can't help but notice that you blame "bloggers" for the "ugly" political climate. Well, if your Party hadn't done everything in its power to eliminate the role of the 4th Estate in providing oversight and insisting on accountability for elected leaders such as your son, the less-than-esteemed 2nd President George Bush, citizen-journalists wouldn't have been forced to step in to fulfill the role they abdicated.
Standing where I am, I can't help but wonder if you're looking back on your own days in office with something approaching a sense of nostalgia, thinking that if the internet existed back then as the vast democratizing force it is today, you would never have escaped the Iran/Contra scandal so handily.
Face it. Your son is a miserable failure as a President. Your primary gripe is that there are just so many people now who have no qualms about pointing it out. He won both of his elections through chicanery and deception--but now, partially thanks to the efforts of the bloggers you disdain, his failures have been blown wide open for the whole world to see.
Blaming others for the failures of your own people is surely a sign of the failure of the Republican ideology. Personal responsibility has a short shelf life with you people, doesn't it?
Regretfully,
A loyal American
