2. $2.06 at the cheapo brand X station near me
$2.19 at brand name stations in the yuppie part of town.

$2.39 is the top price on the interstates.

$1.99 is rock bottom at Sam's Club.

3. Gas went up about 15 cents just after the election.
I am in CA. I don't know what prices are now, I haven't been by the gas station in a few days. The day after the election the price started going up.

6. Wow...I live in SF and haven't seen gas under $2 in several years
Edited on Tue Nov-14-06 04:32 PM by Der Blaue Engel
I doubt I'll ever see it again. I don't know what the price is right now, but just before the election it was around $2.67 in my neighborhood.

On edit: Just looked it up, and the gas in my neighborhood is now $2.83. The average in SF was $2.44 one week ago and is $2.54 today.

7. Blaming it on the "holidays"
AND GOING UP!!! Of course, the refineries are not so enthusiastic as they mysteriously were to glut the the market. Watch the excuses manufactured to explain(or more likely ignore) LOW refinery production in the near future.

11. Gas here in the Boise area is 2.24 - 2.31
That's DOWN 8-10 cents since the election.

That's the lowest our prices have been since before Hurricane Katrina.

14. I don't think we've ever had a "red state discount."
Prices here are almost always higher than most other places.

22. California and New York are generally exceptions, but...
notice all of the other prices listed. These are increases being reported, but they're still lower than we pay after having some decreases.

A month or so ago when people were reporting drops to the lower $2 ranges, we were still paying $2.60. We were still paying 2.99 in September, when other states were reporting rapid decreases in price.

Any "red state discount" is a myth.

15. Average 15 cent increase here in the Phoenix area.
I was getting gas for $2.07 just before the election, and I wasn't even looking around for the cheap stations. Some of them went as low as $2.03, and one of them even dipped to $1.99.

Now $2.07 is the lowest you can get, and the average is $2.18.

19. how do you figure an "average" increase of $0.18
Edited on Tue Nov-14-06 08:09 PM by onenote
sounds like the maximum increase could be $0.19 assuming that (and it seems unlikely) that the cheapest station went all the way to $2.18 from $1.99

This website suggests that phoenix gas prices are up about a nickle over the past week, about what others seem to be reporting elsewhere.

20. I said 15 cents, not 18 cents.
While a couple of stations are selling in the $2.0x range, there aren't many. Plenty of them were last week, and one or two managed to get into the $1.9x range.

The highest-priced station I could find in the valley was at $2.25. Now it's $2.39. Okay, 14 cents. But I'm rounding here.

I was mainly citing what I found without snooping around for cheap gas - I remember throwing down $2.07 pre-election, and at the pump the day after, I paid $2.21, or something. Close enough so I'd say "15 cents" instead of "10 cents" or "20 cents".

I should've explained my reasoning better.
