Venezuela’s Thanksgiving Meal
Venezuela is expanding its offer of discounted heating oil for poor families in the U.S., while trying to spruce up its image after the little incident in September when Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez used his turn at the United Nations microphone to call President Bush “the devil.”
“Come and share a Thanksgiving meal and Caribbean music with your neighbors, and support the program that is helping thousands of families in New York and all around the United States,” reads an invitation from Citgo for an event this Friday in the Bronx. Citgo, the Houston-based unit of Venezuela’s oil company, began the heating-oil program last year in the Northeast, and this winter plans to sell millions of gallons of heating oil at a 40% discount in 16 states.
