1. Why would they bother, honestly?
It was probably a bunch of bored Chinese bubbleheads trying to entertain themselves.

China could whoop our butt with half its army tied behind its back. I doubt they have any reason to actually "spy" on one of our ships.

7. They have the perfect reason.
If they could sneak up on a carrier group, record useful data, and slip away without detection, the captain would be a major stud, and the hero of the fleet.

Seriously, this sort of observation is nothing unusual in international waters. If the sub had surfaced, the crews might have waved at one another.

9. I wonder how much "useful" data they could get that they
don't already possess.

Otherwise, you're right. It's like "counting coup."

2. I saw it reported
on Fox today. I suppose many countries spy on other countries.

12. I've flown in those planes
I would not have wanted to be on that one. It was a miracle no one was killed. That flight crew should have recieved a medal just for landing that plane.

10. America spies on other nations as a matter of national security
It was really bad during the " Cold War".
why wouldn't China do this, or Russia, England?

it is a natural part of any nation's security program to spy on others.
