2. I believe
if gays can't marry or serve openly in the military they should not have to pay taxes. The constitution is a shield not a weapon and "conservatives" are fucking idiots on this and other issues.

I would truly love for gays to have what I have legally.

Happily married for more then 30 years, my wife is my best friend, she is good in the bedroom and in the kitchen. She has been employed every day of our marriage, she's 54 and could pass for 24, goes to the gym at least three days a week, has a wonderful sense of humor and for some unknown reason loves me.

Did I mention that "conservatives" were fucking hate mongering idiots?

4. Good point
On the other hand, that "Don't Ask Don't Tell" crap can keep us out of stupid, immoral wars.

5. I'd love to see
about 50,000 Soldiers declare their gayness and insist on discharge papers right now. And it has always boggled my mind why it was okay to get naked in the shower with heterosexual guys. I continue to draw a blank on that rationale.

My other lifelong quandary - what is the worse punishment, the death penalty or life in prison?

18. Question -
If the military discharges someone for being gay - do they get a dishonorable discharge? Just curious, thanks!

19. Its a tough scenario for a gay person
If one comes forward and admits to being a homosexual they would be eligible for an honorable discharge, but their admission may start a witchhunt of sorts at a local command (depending on the credibility and integrity of the Commander.) The effort would be to undermine the persons claim and that "gay" activity was going on (god forbid) and that the integrity of the units mission was being undermined. Antiquated and nonsensical however thats the way it works nowadays. Never mind how alcoholism, spouse abuse and poor money management effects unit integrity.

6. when they say gay marriage threatens straight marriage
do they mean they're afraid all the repressed people in straight marriages wouldn't be getting married and procreating if there were no societal blockings to being able to live authentically as a gay person AND be married?

12. I'm just saying....
50% of the marriages end in divorce...so statistically speaking a large percentage marriages probably suck right now.

14. yes you could say that
and the reason? a jab. i am talking the intent. i jsut am not into being mean for the sake of mean. i have a happy marriage. hubby and i are amazed at how easy it all is. but what about the person that is going thru personal agony and pain in their marriage and reads your post. almost feels like a glee or something to those that have marriages that suck. this isnt a hard one. wnating to cause others pain, because you feel the pain of being excluded? i can understand hte very human reaction.... but it really doesnt make you feel any better... any more than those that have marriages that suck. not to mention all of us that have to come on and defend our marriages. we get jabs all over... with this kind of bullshit. not fun for you being discrimated against, ... being hated by a large group f people across the nation. it makes me sick. must make you sick a 100 times....

they are the pigs. they disgust me. i live in an area full of fundie repugs and every day of my life, (because of your issue) i feel a vile sick feeling anymore. i now actually go out of my way anymore to tell my fundie friends how they have taken a religion and created hate across the nation, it is a religion of cult.

8. Well, mine doesn't suck
And everyone who wants it should have the opportunity to take a shot at it and see if they can build a marriage that doesn't suck.

My brother and his husband have been together for nearly 20 years. They got married during that brief, glorious, joy-filled time when it was legal in San Francisco. It was an act of love and hope and commitment and courage and defiance.

The tide is not turning fast enough, but I truly do believe it is turning. I truly do believe they will be able to once again take vows and this time it will be legal and recognized nationwide. Not soon enough, but it WILL happen.

11. my marriage is great
My marriage is great. I love my wife. We've been together for six years.

I just wish people who are gay could have the same rights and privleges as I do.

10. True - now how about a ban on all marriage?
Edited on Wed Nov-15-06 12:03 PM by emulatorloo
Civil unions for everybody, get the state out of this marriage business. Then the rightwingers can cry about something else. Or marry everbody, regardless of sexual orientation and be done with it. Just don't allow divorces. And then the rightwingers will really start crying.

13. To perpetuate the species
Good point, since heterosexual marriage is often justified because it's necessary to continue life, it would seem that a guy can impregnate a lot more women if he's not monogamous... so ya, ban all marriage. :sarcasm: Seriously, it's really ridiculous. America is supposed to be the center of freedom around the world, not moral hypocrisy.

...yet there's no shortage of strays on the street. I hate when they try to use that perpetuation of the species business as justification.

16. Texas has already annulled all marriages!
Read it for yourself in Prop 2 that passed:

Sec. 32. (a) Marriage in this state shall consist only of the union of one man and one woman. (b) This state or a political subdivision of this state may not create or recognize any legal status identical or similar to marriage.

21. Okay, that's HILARIOUS...
These idiots undid part a with part b. I'd say marriage is "identical" to marriage. If you were married in Texas, too bad. Gonna have to get married in another state for it to be official.
