BUSH LIED TO CONGRESS AND THE AMERICAN PEOPLE IN THIS March 2003 Letter.

Iraq was NOT a threat.

President Bush used false premises to drive the country to war, insisting that Iraq was developing nuclear weapons and linking Saddam Hussein to Al Qaeda and 9/11. The consequences have been enormous, and there is no end point to the duration or to lives lost in Iraq.

For Immediate Release
Office of the Press Secretary
March 19, 2003

Presidential Letter
Text of a Letter from the President to the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President Pro Tempore of the Senate

March 18, 2003

Dear Mr. Speaker: (Dear Mr. President)

Consistent with section 3(b) of the Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution of 2002 (Public Law 107-243), and based on information available to me, including that in the enclosed document, I determine that:

(1) reliance by the United States on further diplomatic and other peaceful means alone will neither
(A) adequately protect the national security of the United States against the continuing threat posed by Iraq nor (B) likely lead to enforcement of all relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions regarding Iraq; and

(2) acting pursuant to the Constitution and Public Law 107-243 is consistent with the United States and other countries continuing to take the necessary actions against international terrorists and terrorist organizations, including those nations, organizations, or persons who planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001.

Sincerely,

GEORGE W. BUSH

Deceiving Congress and the people in taking the country to war in Iraq. War, in the view of the framers of the Constitution, would create one of the greatest temptations for a president to abuse power. Edmund Randolph, a member of the Constitutional Convention, noted, "The Executive will have great opportunities for abusing his power; particularly in time of war when the military force, and in some respects the public money will be in his hands."

Taking our country into war based on false information is a misuse of presidential war-making power. Deceit nullifies the right and obligation of Congress to understand the issues at stake and to decide whether to support the war. The right of the American people to participate in the decision is cast aside. The actions "subvert the Constitution," under founder George Mason's definition of impeachable offenses.

1. There it is!
All that is missing is the backbone to take ACTION and the will to uphold the rule of law and the US Constitution. The voters wanted a change from a DO NOTHING congress!

14. He lied...but here is his "out"

"based on information available to me."

He intentionally qualified the remainder of his assertions. He has used the "flawed intelligence" argument throughout this fiasco.

He and his co-conspirators are slime...through and through, but make no mistake...they've gone to great lengths to cover their respective behinds.

We know of intelligence that told him it wasn't true at all (He ignored that and the people that told him so). So it would be an out if only there was no other evidence or intelligence available to him and his administration. BUSH IS SCREWED!

3. How many times has that been posted here before?
It supports at least two counts of lying to Congress.

20. I posted for last 3yrs that IWR didn't take us to war - Bush violated IWR to go to war.
But by keeping the meme out there that IWR was a vote for war, BushInc got to bypass the guidelines that forced him to make that statement - thereby LYING this country into war. The media never NOTICED because Rove had IWR = war as the dominant storyline.

5. Sounds like a high crime to me. Forget the misdemeanor part.
Seriously, if we don't hold pRresident Bush accountable on this issue...is there any criminal act that would be grounds to impeach a future President? We're setting a mighty high bar if we ignore what this dictator has done to the country.

7. What if he believed in all those things? Is it a lie then?
Technically, he didn't tell the truth. He should be impeached for violations of the Constitution (spying, etc).

8. They Terrorized the American People
Putting it any other way is just euphemizing (i.e., lying and protecting them).

Impeachment IS our positive agenda.

It is our ONLY moral, patriotic option.

10. Throw in the directives he signed...
... authorizing torture and rendition that were described by the CIA to boot!

I have heard posters screaming here for years about how the Constitution is being destroyed by these criminals, but now that the time has come to restore justice and oversight, there seems to be a fear of doing what is right. I just don't get it...

13. "Never Forget: George W. Bush willfully violated National Security to cover-up his willful ...
... launch of a war of aggression and illegal occupation of Iraq .... and, now he willfully provided nuke-making instructions to terrorists -- if you doubt it, just check 'the google' ....

It's time to bring the to the lips of Bush, Cheney, Wolfowitz, Feith, Perle, Tenet, Rice, Rumsfeld, Abu Gonzales, .... and all the other PNACers, and their sugar daddy Kovner ...
