DU rules about duplicate threads on the same subject. "Good
Edited on Wed Nov-15-06 02:48 PM by texpatriot2004
citizens check for duplicates!" It seems that lately there is a real problem with duplicate threads on the same subject. I am not sure what the DU rules are exactly but I know it is suggested that before you post you check to make sure that there isn't already a thread on the same topic.

Today alone I have seen 3 or 4 threads on the Iraq Soldier pleading guilty and at least as many about ABC/Abramoff and Senator Reid; these are only 2 examples, today. It seems like people aren't even checking for duplicates before they post.

It is not necessary to begin a new thread if there is already one on that same topic.

Perhaps the DU Moderators can help me out here with the rules? Can something be done about this?

"Good citizens check for duplicates!"

I'm sorry to rant but it's on my last nerve.

1. Inform the moderators about the dupes...
they'll usually combine the threads.

4. Only in LBN.
Dupes can be irritating, but they're not enforced very rigidly anywhere outside of LBN. I'm not aware of any new rules, but I'm not a mod this term, so if anything's changed, disregard my post. I don't think it would hurt to alert on them, especially if it's getting out of hand.

13. They also happen because
when the people start typing them, they aren't duplicates. But by the time they're posted, they are. Thus, the fastest fingers get the first post and the rest are all dupes by a matter of seconds.

3. If I recall correctly, only in Latest Breaking News are dupes forbidden

and removed or combined.

In General Discussion, dupes are really looked on as no giant deal unless they get out of hand.

10. Yep Skinner I think usually reminds us of our "hide thread" feature
if we are annoyed by too many threads on a topic.

I've never felt the need to use it, but I can see that it would be useful for some.

12. I don't mind the dupes, personally.
If it is a subject I'm interested in, I'll read all the threads about it to see what different posters have to say.

I like getting different opinions on certain things. And, it sometimes helps me see who to ignore.
